I've done some searching and have a pretty good idea of what I think it may be worth, but I thought I would ask some more knowledgeable folks here on the site. This is my father in-laws rifle that he has had since new, and still using it. In fact, he just packed out a moose on his own a few km's, and he's 6 months shy of his 80th birthday. He is strictly a back pack hunter, so it does have some bumps and bruises, but still a fantastic shooter. (easily sub moa with factory loads) He broke the original stock while packing out a goat years ago. All the brass here is what has been fired through it. I was hoping to get some input as to the value of this complete collection of rifle and brass.
Cheers!

NOT INCLUDING SCOPE.
358 Schultz and Larsen M68DL (Gustaaf action?)
Custom made stock, free floating, glass bedded.
116 Norma brass, once fired, reloaded with hornady 250 grain round nose.
301 Norma brass, once fired.
63 Norma brass, once fired, resized with primer.
49 pieces factory load oryx norma 250 grain.
10 factor ammo. Norma 250 grain.
91 round nose 250 grain hornady bullets.
RCBS full length and seating dies.
460 total pieces of brass.
59 total factory loads.
There is a handful of twice fired brass mixed in the lot. He had all of those reloads loaded up for him but, when he went to test them out, they did not shoot well at all. Put them in storage. (I'm thinking maybe 4 total that would make for 120 total reloads)

Thats unbelieveable ! I have seen that very rifle somewhere and I'm wracking my brain trying to recall where.
Hard to place a value considering the amount of hard to find brass, the scope is not cheap either.

One of these days I am having a S&L. Unfortunately not ready yet...

I am sure Mr. Peterson will soon chime in, he has one. Original stock though. It is definitely a "hunted With" rifle and that will affect the value. Also not a common factory round and that will make the interested group smaller as well, mostly a hand loaders chambering. I guess it will depend on how bad someone want it. It is definitely a high quality rifle.

I saw a recent EE ad for an older model in 7MM S&H that had an asking price of 5-600. I would value it higher, but supply and demand will dictate. Value with brass and dies included will still be dictated by same.

BTW, it is not Carl Gustav action, proprietary Schultz & Larsen action.

Just Johnn is fine :) . On a altered or custom job, I wouldn't have an inkling as to how much it's worth, ;) and there's twenty inklings to a clue. I say the value would depend on how good a job was done on it and who did it. I'd suggest sending the photos and info to a very knowledgeable site member when it comes to Schultz & Larsens. He goes by dwh44 on site.

Those would be good questions. I guess the fact that it has held together for more than 30 years, and shoots laser beams in the form of cannon balls, should say something. :) Tried to search that member but was unable to find even the member search button. Hmmmmm.....

I didn't mean to infer it wasn't a quality item, just saying the who's who details will have a considerable bearing on the value.
dwh44 is a gentleman that lives in Nanoose here on Vancouver Island and I have him as dwh44 on my list of friends and contacts. All I can suggest is try entering/adding him as a contact to your list. He joined 10-12-2004 and his last visit to site was 09-23-2016, 11:58.

If it is good mechanically, then I would think it's worth more than the $500 suggested earlier. IMO the .358NM chambering adds $150-$200 to the value. That might not apply if it were sold at a garage sale but would apply if you were selling it on the EE where it will be exposed to hundreds of people who are already competent reloaders.

No worries. I wasn't thinking anything like that. Now, it's funny you mentioned this gentleman. Does he travel to the interior of BC for gun shows perhaps? I ask because the father in-law met with a man up in the Okanagan. Actually brought him the rifle to have a look at it, and this fellow made him an offer of a trade.

Absolutely! The brass alone is worth $500. My guess, and that's all it is, is the rifle with accoutrements should sell for over a Grand. I have been a 358 Norma user since 1969. It is a very fine big game cartridge, and I have decked many moose and bears using it. As best I can recall, only one ever needed a second shot, and that was user error.

Someone is going to get a fine rifle, that will work forever in the field, and never look any more used than it already does. Not so much a S&L fan, or I would be making inquiry about the rifle.
Ted

True enough. That's a sizeable quantity of brass, especially considering it isn't a calibre you come across every day. Prior to my purchasing the Husqvarna in 358NM from you and in anticipation of getting a rifle in that calibre, I purchased 100 new unprimed brass from Henry at Budget Shooters Supply. Shortly after, from a site member that was with us at a recent coffee meet while you were here, I purchased seven boxes of Norma factory loads. ;) Should keep me well supplied for quite a few years. Next fall, young Son & I are planning a Moose hunt in the B.C. central interior where our family has a cabin, and, that Husqvarna I got from you will 'get the call' :d .

Yup. Id value the rifle by itself in the $700-$800 range and the extras in the $300-$400 range. $1000 for that package would be a good buy for someone.
