What scope to put on a Sako A11 Mannlicher 308

I think fullstock rifles look good with 20mm (or non-belled) objective diameter scopes. Not sure about your AII but my AV would have needed extension rings and/or bases for a lot of belled-objective scopes that I had considered for it -

Exactly the scope I would pick also!

Vx3 2.5-8 optilocks ringmounts.

I have older SAKO Mannlicher, same scope (which I heartedly endose, has B&C reticle of dubious utility.I used Leopold quick detach rings. Works well. A well balanced rifle to hunt deer with.Prints 3 shots ,1" at 100 yes with 1 factory 150gr and several handloads up to 180gr.If I were a rich man, i hunt it hard. But then the stock would need waxing, nice wood stock would gets scratches and gouges.....

I am getting an older Sako A11 Mannlicher rifle in 308. I can't make up my mind on what scope would look good on it. Would like some input on a 30mm tube as I have rings and bases. So fire away as to thoughts on what you think would be a good fit.

these rifles are quick handling and well suited for close country found in places like northern Ontario... my Sako All Mannlicher in 243W has a fixed 4x AL Swarovski (1" tube) in the factory rings that are quick detachable.. the scope is Austrian made and no longer available but they are fairly light and match the purpose of the rifle. Not sure what 30mm scope would fit your needs but you can acquire inserts for 30mm rings to take them down to 1".

FWIW while I use a few variables .. when hunting I just select a power and leave it there...4x is fine for most applications and has reasonable FOV

The Sako A-series are nice lightweight rifles; I wouldn't even consider slapping a 30mm scope on one. Get a set of polymer reducing bushings and mount a nice lightweight Leupold (in gloss finish!) and go hunting. Personally, although I love the look of the straight-tube 1-4x or 1.5-5x models, I would go with a 2-7x with an enlarged objective (33mm, 36mm something like that...) for better brightness at first and last light.
