Hickok45 on 10mm vs 45acp

One of the first things he says: "I'm going to try to keep this video short."

I look at the time stamp: almost 25 minute runtime.

I remember why I stopped watching his videos many months ago. It shouldn't take 25 minutes to say '10 is a little warmer than 45 and the 10 magazine holds more rounds.'

Personally...I like his videos..one of a few who's reviews I actually trust...I do however agree he can be just a little long winded...
Jmho.

Saying 10mm Auto is a 'little warmer' than .45 Auto is being extremely kind to the .45 Auto. With full house loads 10mm blows the 45 out of the water in every way possible and makes .357 Mag look weak.

From the specialty makers at least, full power .357 is right up there, while +P .45 is reasonably close.

Anyway, while I usually like my videos as information dense as possible, I don't mind Hickok45 taking his time a bit.

You didn't need 9 hours to watch a Hobbit walk to chuck a ring in a volcano, but in the end it was entertaining. Not everything needs to be condensed to satisfy the A.D.D. In you. I enjoy cracking a beer and watching a few of Hickok's vids. Reminds me of talking with my grandfather when he was still with us. If you want something quick, watch Yankee Marshall.

ive been wanting to pick up a 10mm for a while now.
i narrowed it down to either a Glock 10mm (G40 longslide) or a Delta Elite.
so this video was bang on for me!
i think now after watching im leaning towards the Glock.
(yes i know, i said Glock)

At SAAMI spec pressures, 10mm eats .357. A max 10mm Auto load will put 180gr bullet out at 1250fps from a 5" barrel. A max .357 load will put a 180gr bullet out at 1150fps from a 8" barrel. 10mm/155gr goes 1450fps, .357/158gr goes 1250fps. If the specialty manufacturers are getting significantly more than that they are exceeding industry standard pressures.

Anyway, I agree that Hickok45 is generally very long winded and that sometimes that is OK.

A round fired from a 10mm will have the same amount of energy at 100 yards that a .45ACP will have at the muzzle, IIRC my tables

Thereabouts, yes.

A .357 will put a 180gr, through a 7" barrel at 1,394 fps using Vihtavuori N110; minus roughly 20 fps per inch, 1,344 is still quite warm. So, no, the 10mm doesn't blow it out of the water.

I have a few Buffalo Bore heavy 10mm loads. Right off the box:

180 gr. Jacketed Hollow Point

My own personal average from a G20 with a Wolf aftermarket barrel I calculated to average around 1,311 - 1,350 fps, with a muzzle energy of 728 ft. lbs for the 180gr JHP

My personal favorite 10mm configuration is my regular outdoor carry load when in the US hunting or hiking is a Buffalo Bore 220 gr Hard Cast- 1,200 FPS @ 703 ft. lbs. muzzle energy :runaway:

My Hornady manual shows 1100fps for N-110 at a max load of 11.8gr with a 180gr bullet. The data you posted was from a solid test barrel, not an actual revolver and is substantially heavier than the Hornady SAAMI specs at 14.0gr.
