If you were to buy a rifle today.... (Range Report Added)! post #59

I think I'll continue to use what I've always found to be about perfect............350 RM in either my mod 7 KS or my Mod 7 MS.............I shoot 225 gn ABs with the tips cut off, performance is outstanding.

This is my true bear killer and has accounted for untold numbers of Blackies

Model 94 30-30

++++++++++++++1 black bears are hunted over bait. Shots would be at archery ranges unless spot and stalk. The old turdy turdy would do nicely...mild recoil, light, short and quick handling with about the right amount of umff for blackies. For the griz I'd bump to 338 or 300win mag in a nice handling bolt action.

that's not the case in BC

Unfortunately, no where I have hunted blackies, has it been legal to bait. It is not allowed in the Yukon or BC..........It is all spot and stalk, even with a bow, so it does kinda change your outlook on cartridges best suited to one's allowed style of hunting. The last 2 I have taken have been with a 7mm RUM with 160 ABs at about 400 mtrs, 'cause that's the gun I keep handy for nuisances and predators in my horse pasture. Seemed to work just fine................

A 7 RUM with 160 AB's is pretty potent medicine for many things... in many places...
