Thinking of selling my Restored MkI*. I saw one sell at an auction last year in original condition for $3800. Mine has a poor bore, MkII cap and has been restored. Thoughts?

Few things that would help. How severe is the refinishing? Did the "refinishing" remove the stamped letters and numbers on the stock? If not, the stampings could help determine interest for those looking for specific military units.

By "restored" he means the gun was sporterized and the front of the stock is newly grafted on and a few small parts were recently made to make it complete. The butt does not look to have been sanded at all - you can see the unit marks n his pictured - there there and reasonably sharp.

B:
I bought one a couple of years back, all there and original, great bore, with a few dings in the wood and good blue/patina with all markings intact.
Paid $1100.
Given restoration, I would say in the $700-$900 range.

I don't really know, they are certainly rare and considering all Rosses seem to be in the 1000$+ area its hard to say. Very few Mk. 1s out there, but valuewise I wouldn't know where to start, maybe 1000-1500$? Maybe more maybe less, I haven't been following Ross prices (other than the Mk. IIIs) so I couldn't tell you.

It's hard to say what that rifle is worth.

Here's my thoughts.

As a Ross collector the chance for a mk1 Ross in any shape has never been something I've experienced. So the collector in me would be interested as its a mk1 Ross!

BUT, once again as a Ross collector that rifle has a few things that make it less desirable to me. The nose cap is incorrect and the fore end has been extended. It is a beautiful job and it looks just right to me but it is still a restored sporter. Also the bore is ratty so it may or may not be shootable, not a huge deal breaker for me but it may be for some. The last full wood minty mk2 I bought had a sewer pipe bore, the rest of the gun was perfect so I paid full asking price and giggled all the way home.

All i know is I wouldn't give that one away, it's too rare if a rifle in any condition making it valuable to the right guy. Not to mention that it has been tastefully restored and looks correct enough to suit my tastes.

Value I say $1000 max but I may be out to lunch.

well I think looking at the condition of the wood both your deck and fence need to be looked at, I suggest that you think about replacing the deck railing, the spindles should not have gaps greater then 4" between them. The fence looks not bad but the way its built is a very poor design and will sag and look unsightly in the future.

I have nothing to add on the Ross. :)
