Pinning a 25 shot Ruger magazine

First of all, the CSSA recommends that no one pin or modify these mags until the issue is resolved. There is still some hope that this idiotic ruling can be overturned.

Second, why bother to pin a 25 round mag to ten and pack that dead awkward weight around? Just get a regular 10 round mag.

I second this.

I suppose it depends how you pin it. Honestly this whole issue is just a huge joke. If I didn't frequent this forum, I wouldn't know that anything had changed and would continue to use my 25 round mag.

I actually plan to purchase a Remington 597 with a 30 round mag just to prove a point. In theory... the 597 would be more dangerous because it has 5 more shots than my 10/22 but yet its still legal. It's a very stupid "interpretation" of a law that has been put in place just to see how much power the liberals can actually have over us law abiding gun owners.

I saw some pinned ones for sale at a prominent LGS in Calgary. They had drilled a hole in the plastic, presumably where the follower sits after the 10th round is loaded. They had then screwed into the hole a thin threaded steel bolt. Once the bolt had been screwed in, they had ground off the head of the bolt (like with a dremel) so it can't be easily backed out.

While obviously a home garage quality mod, it seemed reasonable.

Can you even legally pin a mag under the current gun laws? I know importers can't even import full capacity mags ie surplus M16 and pin them here, as they need to be pinned before entry into Canada.

I believe that issue was guys importing disassembled mags and they stepped in to stop all the mass murders and banned the import of such things. Now they need to be pinned before entry into Canadaland. Saves lives or something.
As for pinning mags that just became 30 caliber assault clips overnight I see no reason why pinning them to meet the regs would be a problem.

just use the thing. I don't rely on an online forum to tell me the gun laws. This is all hog wash, how many people are out there using 25 round mags that have never even heard of this. I'm guessing lots. Also as mentioned, if your worried about it, use your 10 round rotary mag. Much more reliable anyway.

You can no longer pin your own magazine unless you have a permit to pin mags. Dealers can't and Distributors can't, you can't.

what the hell are you talking about? Yeah you can't have unpinned CF magazines designed for a semi, so you can't pin fresh mags inside Canada. Its not the pinning thats illegal, its the magazine unpinned.

You can re-pin magazines all you want, all competitors in canada do it when they shoot south of the border... Drill and rivet gun come with them to the range, in the parking lot drilling out rivets before the match, re-pinning after the match.

There's those ones at irunguns with two connected 25 round mags pinned to 10 rounds each. If /when the ruling gets overturned you could unpin it. That would be 50!

If these are the ones at IRG you mentioned, the photo and the description do not jive. The photo is a BX25-2, but the description is for a 2 pack of BX25 mags. The BX25 mags do not attach to each other like the Buttler Creek mags do, they are just single stack, 25 round mags pinned to 10 rounds in each mag. The Ruger BX25-2 mag is a double ended single mag, with 50 round capacity, which must be pinned to 10 rounds total, not 10 rounds in each end.

IIRC the CSSA also recommends to lock the mags up, and not use them. If the OP only has 25 rounders, pinning them is a cheap fix to keep shooting today, without spending $20+ for each new Ruger mag. If and when the ruling comes down in our favour, the rivets can be drilled out, and he's back in business with 25 rounds again, and doesn't have a bunch of 10 rounders kicking around that he won't be using.

I'll bet when the new bill comes into effect the new magazine capacity will be 5. I hate this pussified liberal bs.
