I am looking at one with the full stock.
Would this be a good gun for plinking, or is the barrel too thin and too susceptible to overheating?
Ideally I'd like a 7.62x39 but they only make the 223 in full stock config.

I have had several 527's... two were full stock .223's and both were quite accurate. If it is just a plinking rifle, it has way more accuracy than required... they are a well balanced rifle... in the hang carry the balance point is right on the protruding magazine, which is uncomfortable. I sold mine in favour of Ruger RSI's.

I just bought a Lux in 223 and put some NECG iron sights on as a wanted a practical rifle. I don't hunt but plink and target shoot. I absolutely love the gun but it gets way too hot after 5 rounds. That said, it is my first center fire after 5 years of rimefire shooting, so what do I know...

I have the 223 with the reg stock, very accurate IMO, the barrel does get a little warm after 5 consecutive rounds, i shot a 1.9" & 2" 5 shot groups @300yrds with a 4-12x Bushnell at a local fun shoot with 40gr vmax & varget loads, i was happy with the groups with that magnification.

I've had one for a while and its become one of my favorite rifles, its also one of the few rifles that I've been satisfied ith right out of the box, after I adjusted the trigger. With most ammo, milsurp or sporting, it shoots well provided the bullets are on the short side due to the 1:12 twist, but with 50 gr TNTs over 4895, it'll blow your mind. I don't intentionally heat up the barrel, and tend to shoot just 3 shots at a time, but there are exceptions. The newer ones have a faster 1:9 twist, so will be more versatile in terms of bullet choice. I know Hoyt's not a fan of the protruding magazine, but I like the look on this rifle, and on the older Brno Fox, and carry the rifle on my middle finger at the juncture of the front edge of the box and the forend.

I removed the nonadjustable rear sight to allow for a scope . . .

If you're ever tempted top shoot with irons, NECG makes an aperture sight for the CZ 527 . . .

The front sight was replaced with a brass faced Patridge . . .

And the sight picture . . .

I sure like my lefty American standard stock. Good fit and finish and the little Mauser action is a sweetheart.

I have a full stock in 223 , I put a compact 2-7 scope on it for the handy factor . It shoots with my sako HB with a 6-24 scope (awesome)sub MOG at 200yds all the time. it is free floated right to the muzzel where the woods attached. It is a light barrel and will heat up if the gophers rush you but I keep a 22lr handy for the close quarter work . I would like the 3 round flush mag but it apparently needs an adjustment to the mag well area , not sure how difficult the mod is , does someone know? I use the truck stand for gophers and the little full stock shines other bench guns aren't so handy . I'm probably the only guy that shoots gophers out the window , those that take offence can blame my upbringing

I have the 527 Varmint Kevlar and love it (have the 7.62x39 carbine too). Great accuracy and I really like the single set trigger.

I have a varmint laminate .223. It's a very accurate rifle. It has a 9" twist and loves Hornady 68 grain match bullets.

I have the left handed American, while decently accurate the action is coarse and rough and the scope has to be mounted ridiculously high. I still like it though as my light varmiter.

I have a 527 Ebony deadly accurate using 53 gr. V-max over N-133
I sold my heavy barrel because I mostly use it for coyotes, easy to pack around and shoot off hand.

I have the laminate 527 in .223 with a VX-3i 8-25x on top. It is a joy to shoot (paper for me) out to 200. I find the action really sticky and notchy for the first 50 rounds (so far!). Otherwise the "micro" action is really sweet.
