35 Whelen twist rate

Reloder15 is the powder for the 35 Whelen. Very good results with IMR4064 when no Re15 could be found. Also good results with W748.

I liked the 250gr Barnes X bullet at ~2400 fps - elk slayer. That bullet has been discontinued and now use the 250gr Swift bullet.

For 250 gr and heavier bullets there is a better powder - Re17. Pack as much as possible in and enjoy the results.

The Woodleigh Bullets Loading Manual lists Re17 with their 310gr bullet. But I don't get very good accuracy in my Remington 700 CDL or 7400 35 Whelen because the 1-in-16" twist rate is too slow to stabilize this bullet (my 358 Win. and 350 Rem. Mag. which have 1-in-12" twists get good accuracy with the 310gr bullet) -

Why would bullets heavier than 250s be needed in a 35Whelen esp with the bullet selection we have now? Would not a 375Magnum be a better choice then?

Good results with my 358 Win. and the 310gr RN SN at ~2100 fps MV on Moose. Provides extra penetration for quartering shots. This bullet is an excellent penetrator and has good expansion characteristics. Improved performance and extended range if launched at higher speeds from larger case capacity 35 caliber rounds like the 35 Whelen and 350 Rem. Mag. with twist rates of 1:14 or faster. Who needs a 375? :p

Nice rifle choice! I picked up the same 700 cdl ltd a few weeks back and mounted a leupold vx2 2-7 in low one piece talley mounts. Haven't found the time to sight it in yet but sure is a pretty one to look at

Sure love my Rem 7600 factory carbine 35 whelen!
The 1:16 twist doesn't bother me abit lol. shoots factory federal premium 225gr TBBC into basically one hole groups.

P.S.
No it's not for sale lols
