One shotgun for all?

If one finds O/U that fits him well, and shoots target loads, there is NO recoil whatsoever... as long as you don't shoot Challengers.
Those produce very minimal recoil, that can become somewhat annoying if you are shooting a lot.

Unfortunately, nobody has found a way to overcome physics yet, so all O/U shotguns will produce recoil, the only difference is how much.

We can blame that Newton chap and his pesky theories. I haven't found an o/u that doesn't recoil and don't find Challengers to be any worse than any other brand of shell.

Semis produce as much total cumulative recoil as an o/u but with the gas guns the recoil is spread out over a longer period and it feels softer shooting.

The only surprise in this thread is that some JMB diehard hasn't touted the original Browning A5.;)

So a shell that produces MINIMAL recoil gets annoying? You lost me on this one. Isn't that what you want in a shell if you're shooting a lot with an O/U??

Let me help you find yourself.

Challengers have a little bit of recoil that bother some sensitive souls.

Federal and Winchester pretty much no recoil at all.

I didn't want to start a argument. I had a Browning Citori years ago but I sold it off in a moment of weakness. It was a nice gun but I didn't shoot it all that well. I later picked up a very nice used BT-99 and did better on the trap field. I now find the recoil a little too much from the BT-99 and after three rounds of trap, I've had enough. Having osteoarthritis makes shooting uncomfortable to say the least so my need for a semi-auto and light target loads. Also shooting double trap while using a single shot gun makes it really hard to get that second clay ;).

StoneHorse,

I shoot Browning Maxus and Beretta A400, But strongly prefer my O/U... hence my joking post.
My friend shoots his Remington Versamax and just loves it.

You will have to try several guns and see which one fits you best.
In clay sports it is all about how shotgun fits you.

Also you may wanna consider shooting 20 ga if you are more recoil sensitive.

Cheers,
Dan

You didn't start an argument. The superhero ultra machismo I can withstand recoil unlike any man on this earth member with the Lion as an avatar started the argument. f:P:

I think he should change his avatar picture to a picture of Razor Ramone so we immediately recognize a member with so much machismo! ;)

Thanks for welcoming me to Skeet/ Trap/ Sporting clays forums... Laugh2
Don't be thinking too hard, you might get a headache...

No need to explain anything. The individual who is trolling your thread has never posted in this forum previously and is demonstrating that he is well out of his depth in a discussion about shotguns, clay target shooting or basic physics.

In the meantime, are you any closer to a decision?

Oh ok?! Welcome aboard, looking forward to your experienced input!!

Now take your little Outers portable string release trap, your box of clays, a few boxes of 3.5" BB loads and go leave a big mess in someone's gravel pit. :runaway:

You girls need to lighten up a little...

Perhaps look into buying 28 ga, if you are of smaller stature.

As a matter of fact, I shoot skeet with a 28 gauge O/U, and I hunt with a 28 gauge SxS. I like the light gun for carrying around upland hunting, and I have shot clean rounds of skeet doubles with the 28 gauge.

Remington 1100 competition synthetic. 30" barrels, 5 extended chokes, adjustable comb, recoil reduction system, R3 recoil pad, different spring adjustments in stock, target beads. Bullseye london has one for $1,500. I just sold one a month ago for $1,200, it didn't fit me right. I now shoot an 870 classic trap for singles and caps. Have yet to shoot doubles with it.

If you girls find that O/U recoils too strongly, perhaps knitting might be better hobby for you.

I hope you're kidding, some people have injuries or other reasons that perhaps they need the least amount of recoil possible.

OP, I have a hatsen 12g, gas operated semi. I'ts now my only 12g. I can shoot 100 shells on the trap line with the only breaks are waiting to hear the scores I could probably do 200 if there was enough time (usually 4 rounds is the max before it starts getting dark). shot turkey loads, bb at geese, never an issue with the gun. I got it used and it works flawlessly.
