When I was in the militia we used the FNC1A1 in 5.56mm and the FNC2 in 7.62mm. They were heavy suckers with only iron-sights. I prefer the new lighter composite rifles with scopes :)

I hated carrying the FN FAL. I'd take a G3 any day over it.

the Chilean one might be a bit lacking for the initial $3600 price tag.... but its light, reliable, easy to operate and clean came out in the 80's I'm sure the Swiss one was a bit better built.


unlike a lot of these other rifles... it s still in production and use today in the military.

Brain damage from fluoride in tap water ... making you believe you can drink it without questioning........ now that's first world.
 
Patton called the M1 the finest implement of battle because he did not live to see the FAL.

H&K made a 5.56 version of the G3, the HK33. In the 80s, they made a STANAG-compliant version with an M16A1-based forward assist and bolt hold open and an FAL-based carry handle, the G41. I think they should put it into production and the German army should adopt it to replace the G36.

Wow! I had no idea that gun existed. There's a whole lot to love there!
 
It's a broad question, isn't it? The best MBR is the one you can shoot accurately, whether it be a lever action, bolt or semi- they are all MBRs. If it were a purely Canadian military question as it should be for those for us here, then, well, that would be the C7 or the C8 (and their variants). If I had to choose one for myself, I'd go with a .308 and a good brake any time of the day.
