Husqvarna 1600 series 9.3x62 question

I have a re-chambered model 146 98 in 9.3x62, which has no problem feeding any of the factory loads available, however I understand that the M96 small ring has problems with the length of factory cartridges ( excluding norma)

My question relates to the Husqvarna 1600 series in 9.3x62. Will this model have problems with some of the factory rounds because it is small ring?
 
The magazine length of my wife's .30/06 1640 carbine is sufficient for the longest .30 caliber bullets I've found; 180 gr TSXs and 240 gr Woodleighs. The 1600 is a true .30/06 action length, where the military Mausers are scaled for the X57 length cartridges. I think you could purchase a 9.3X62 1600 without any concern about magazine length, even if you intend to load the 325 gr Oryx.
 
Thanks gentlemen... small ring, 98 action resolves my concerns. Others had told me in the past that the husky 96's meant most factory rounds, other than norma had to have the points filed to fit the magazine. Really appreciate your help.

Even the commercial FN '98 actions they used prior to making the 1600 series have longer mag boxes then a standard K98 mag box. K98 is around 3.35" compared to 3.50" for the FN98.
A '96 action is a stretch for the 9.3x62 but they did make quite a few.

rechambered not plain 9.3x62 from the factory.

if you are using the 9.3x62 in 96 you need to use the specs of 9.3x62 from the beginning and 2150fps for 285 grains.

baribal will chime in for sure and put some light in ....
 
My neighbour has a Husqvarna model 96 in 9.3X62 with a 24" barrel. He shoots factory PRVI 285 gr soft points. It clocks 2265 fps over the Oehler.

Recently we tested some handloads in his rifle: 286 gr Lapua Mega ahead of 55 gr of 4895 gave 2235fps.

before I rebarreled my 1600 I did some research on magazine length .

one of the things I found out was they chambered these rifles in 7mm mag . ( this resolved concerns I had about magazine length and strength of the smaller diameter barrel with a larger diameter high pressure chambering . )

with some minor tweaking I can run rounds with a oal length of just over 3.550 " through my rifle .

off hand I want to say just over 3.4" is possible without any massaging .

the one thing I did run into was the feed rails needed to be opened up , and they are hardened and a pain in the butt to work on . ( my rifle started out as a 270 and the 9.3 round I rechambered it into ended up with a shoulder diameter of .460" , which is roughly 20 thou larger than the 270 shoulder diameter .)

HVA offered a factory '96 in 9.3x62 for a couple years...not sure how many but Tradex seems to get a few in.

I had a Husky model 640 ( 96 action with no thumb cut ) 285 gr. Lapua factory would not fit in my magazine. I shot Speer 270 OAL 3.250 was about at max length

Interesting... Sandy's model 96 loads four of the factory PRVI 285s, which use the same bullet, in the magazine with no problem at all.

My Tikka T3 loads
285 Priva 3.395
270 speers 3.265
I checked my loading notes Max OAL for the Husky 640 was 3.250 it was a 1944 model they may have varied in magazine length over the years.

All that is already in writings in the HVA thread but here it is again;
The ORIGINAL m/640 m/38 based rifles have a slightly elongated magazine which will handle the Lapua and Norma factory loads.
The RECHAMBERED 46 and 46A rifles (made by Trade Ex) will handle most factory loads as the mags were modified to handle them.
The 640 based on the m/98 will handle anything just fine, so will any rechambered m/146.
The 1600 will handle any commercial loads without à complaint.
CIP's OAL is 3.290"
