Pick 5 cartridges that are "must have" in your safe, range, field, etc...

In fantasyland:
50 BMG for max destruction
6.5 Creedmore for light long range
308 for semi battle rifle plink
556 for medium and close range ninja plink
9mm for pistol and sub gun CQB high volume dispensing

In reality, unfortunately:
20g slug for shotgun only area
50cal muzzleloader for one more week of getting meat
12g under the bed or for bird
308 for deer and cheap ammo for practice
22lr so I can plink and not break the bank

after multiple reading, brain storming here is my selection:

223
12ga
308win
9mm
22lr

but i can t decide to stay only with that so i have more ....

6.5x55

I chose 30-06 for the same reason, I can load up to near 300 win mag power levels, or way down, and of course there's a huge range of quality commercial ammo to choose from.
6.5x55 is on my list (7x57 close second), as it really is an "upper middle" range centre fire cartridge that does so much for so little recoil, shoots like a laser beam, inherently accurate, is a classy cartridge to boot, and reloading provides even more options. The rest of my list is obvious: 9mm for sub-gun cheap range fun, 7.62x39 for SKS cheap range fun, and 12ga doesn't require an explanation. I got out of 22LR with 32-20, as I can reload to do everything 22LR can do for very little cost and it can be made into a potent little round on par with 30 Carbine.

.22LR
12ga
.223 / 5.56
.300WM *
.45ACP

If I got a sixth I would add .308WIN, but I could load down the 300 if need be and use a light firearm if a sixth choice is out.

22lr plinking all day with Ruger mk II in the wifes hand, and Ruger 10/22 for me. Still trying to get that 5*5 1/2" at 50 yds groups. I see you Windmill! I will tilt at you! Also have a single shot Anschutz from the 60s that I am trying to improve on with iron sights.
9mm - CZ 75 and Browning Inglis Hi power. cheap and easy reload. lots of brass available. perfect round IMHO for the coming zombie apocalypse. or, just shooting at the range all day at around 16 c/rnd.
12g - bird hunting, trap shooting.
20g - as above, but in the wifes hands
That's the fixed must have rounds, the last slot will go to 6.5 creedmoor. No practical reason other than I ran out of slots and had to pick one of my 'hunting' cartridges. Mostly picked because it's new and playing with it. Other choice would have been my 270.

Would like to have squeezed in the 223 here, but that would require talking the wife into changing to 12g to make the slot available.

What are you shooting .32 WCF in?? I've been thinking of converting a Handi-Rifle to .327 Magnum for the same reasons...
