What the EFFING wrong with Rifle ?

My hunting experience is in double digit decades, shooting in broken double digit and reloading is single digit decade. Still your opinion of any kind are welcome. This rifle was dropped at my house by a friend client, who is going moose hunting and is quite rich.
But he never tweeked or touched the rifle, the way we treat and shoot it. So as the times were running out for moose hunting, I posted on gun nuts to find a quick solution

I reloaded other batch and going to range again this weekend and I tightened few nuts and bolts, see if I can find any improvement.

Reason for my head butting was the single line drop down shooting. If there are no grouping, that might be other problem.

I have the same rifle in 30.06 as well and I love it. I have a bit of wander after my second shot, but not the same as oyu. As you have most likely disassembled yours as well, i think you will agree that bedding is not an option. Additionally, for those that have them, they also know that the barrel is already fully floated.
I noticed with mine initially (while i waited for my Swaro to arrive) that the recoil on such a light rifle kept throwing my cheapo scope out. Specifically the windage -- once the swaro was on , not a prob. I check my forward hex bolt after each use, and it has only been loose once (and then only slightly) , but you wouldn't think that would have an elevation affect, considering the rail forms part of the barrel module.

This!!! If indeed the OP has a 'Luxus' your advice is 'spot-on' Kiki!..unfortunately guidance and advice from people who are obviously not familiar with the modular construction of this rifle...while well meaning... is misleading.

I'd ensure that the barrel is completely absent of copper deposits as a first step.

Some of my rifles actually tighten up quite a bit when the copper and fouling is allowed to accumulate to a certain point. I have one that will shoot 2-3 Moa until 30ish rounds then will hold Moa or better up to 300ish rounds. Not that they wouldn't suffice for hunting with a clean bore just something I've observed with a few of mine. For the sake of consistency wouldnt one have to clean all the copper out after each round like a bench rest shooter squeezing out a 1/16th of an inch?

Took it to range again but lost the target in rain. Good grouping and all you can expect from a light hunting rifle

So end of the day, best thing i found is this center pillar bolt at fault, I believe it's a bit breathing and I lock tighted it.

good news ... VERY nice rifle - let us know when you get tired of it.... incidentally you are probably aware that if you use a 'tight' sling when shooting ... having a sling employed that way and connecting to the forward swivel mounted as it is on the barrel ... will also cause point of impact to change

Try this just for the heck of it. Remove the front stock put some paper shims under the barrel and above the wood at the end of the stock. Use a couple of match books or something temporary to build up that pressure under the barrel. The pressure will come when you screw the forend stock back together with the barrel. This is not a permanent solution it's just to check if your rifle behaves properly with some forend pressure or more forend pressure. Some hunting barrels like it some don't. It's been my experience that slimmer barrels like that dampening pressure at the forend tip. Good luck with that steyr, they usually shoot something beautiful.
One last thing and I'm not trying to be presumptuous or rude, hang on to your forstock firmly. It does make a difference with wippy barrels.

Not saying you are doing it, I have seen people shooting from a sled but resting the barrel on the sled causing vertical stringing.

I had a parker Hale 303 that drove me crazy for years. It had a new PH barrel on it, . As it warmed up it shot to the right, adjust scope and as fast as you moved the cross hairs it moved the impact faster. Cool it completely and it went back . It got to the point to have it sighted in took a long time, letting it cool completely between shots. Then one day cleaning it I noticed the bore looked off center. After some measuring I confirmed it was drilled off center. I sold it to a pawn shop and never looked back.
