Does anyone have any information on the North American Arms Co. that manufactured sporting arms utilizing Sako actions? I have a rifle that has a Sako L57 action and is chambered in .308 Win. Across the barrel, left to right just in front of the receiver is the inscription "North American Arms Grizzly" "caliber .308" "Made in Canada". It has a about a 22" sporter barrel, hooded front sight, no rear sight, hardwood stock, with ebony forend cap.

I have searched the internet and found a couple of references, but they too were people looking for information on the same rife. Even the Sako collectors site knew very little about it. Anyone got some good gen on this seemingly unique firearm??

Hello Wapitiwacker

Interestingly enough i have the exact gun that you are inquiring about.

I would like to know if you have received any additional information on this rifle since you posted your question in 2010.

I have attempted to look up this rifle on the internet, but the information is very limited to none.

thank you

My Dad gave me a North American Arms "Grizzly No.10" .22LR single-shot back in 1968 for my ninth birthday. Great little Gun. I've had my kids shooting it since they were 5 years old. See the .22's once in a while, but can't say I've seen a centerfire though I have heard of them.

I owned a couple of North American Arms Co (NAACO) guns until I sold them on CGN here last year. One was a 'Grizzly' .22 and the other a 'Mallard' 20 guage single. Both very nice inexpensive guns that served me well through high school, college and the early years afield. I believe they were made in Toronto not far from where I lived at the time and may have been bought out by Cooey many years ago. My efforts to find information on these interesting pieces was unsuccessful. There is no information on line that I could find. I should note that the .22 shot incredibly accurately with the Lyman Peep sight!

I have the same gun now in 2016 mine has a 2200 S.N. Do I have the oldest sako in Canada ? Or would it be considered a custom gun ? Looks like the reciever is sako but did North America make the barrels or did they come from sako too ? Nothing but "North America Arms. Cal.308 Grizzly " is on the barrel I would like to know if there is a way to tell how the barrel was made - hammer vs whatever ?

This is an old thread but here are some pics of a Grizzly Arms I had. It's a Sako L57 action, chambered in 308. A few years earlier I had another one with a plain unchekered stock. This one had the barrel stamped along the top. I'll see if I can dig up pics of that one.

Yup Rembo, pretty much exactly the same rifle, although mine wasn't in near as nice condition and didn't have the receiver sight, only the front ramp. I never did find out any more information on these rifles. As posted above, info on the internet is slim to non.

Mine is no longer with me. It was handed down to me from my father. Being a southpaw, the rifle didn't get any use so it has been gifted to my nephew with the proviso that it is never sold. It gets handed down to his son or given back to me no option. So, who knows I may get it back some day.

There was a model that had no provision for the rear site. Sounds like both the OP and Rembo had/have the same model. I'll get you the NACCO catalog price from when they were new once I get home from the weekend.

It was the peep as above that the front sight is set up for. There's no mount provisions on my barrel either

I now own this rifle and have had it for about 3 years. The small company out of Toronto was one of the few companies that brought out sporting rifles with a Sako action. I believe Marlin and Browning also came out with a model that utilized the Sako action. There's some information in the Sako collectors forum regarding the NAA Grizzly, but not much.
