Anschutz 64 MPR doesn't like a dirty barrel

I have never had a rifle go down hill accuracy wise as quick as my MPR.I probably put about 600 rounds through it and I could hardly get a group under a 1/2"I knew I was just waisting ammo so I cut that range trip short a few weeks ago.
I took the action out of the stock and gave it a thorough cleaning with the KG system, removing carbon and then copper.I retorqued the action to 25 inch lbs after adjusting my mag to fall out on release.
The results were fantastic today as I was testing 5 different batch # of center X.I managed a couple of groups in the teens today[this always makes a guy happy!]
On my last line I used an old box of center X that worked awsome in my match 64.The rounds were dry from sitting in my ammo box all summer in my hot garage, what a differance!
3 well over a half inch so the lube on the bullets makes a huge differance.I make sure its all stored cool, in my basement.

Range session about 2 weeks ago with a dirty barrel.
I have to admit I was wondering WTF

Todays range session with a clean barrel and no patching between, just one lot # after another.
I'm glad the accuracy is back,I heard from another on RFC that they need cleaning after 300 rounds.

Is it possible that it wasn't accuracy going south suddenly but perhaps the results of the human factor coming into play? I have found that accuracy was not significantly affected by a brick or two or more of ammo in my MPR (or other Anschutz rifles). I have also found that sometimes I don't shoot as well as I did on other occasions, and sometimes I shoot a little better. The human factor is not one that should be overlooked, unless, of course, it is possible to say that one shoots as consistently as mechanically possible each and every time out with a rifle, which none of the targets -- whether shot with clean or dirty barrel -- would seem to indicate. Perhaps the results shown above reflect a human factor creeping insidiously into the results.:)

Where's the copper coming from?

Should be no copper but I ran the whole kg system to insure a squeaky clean barrel.

Glenn maybe a little human factor but not much. I was pretty much on my game with great conditions 2 weeks ago and I could barely get a group under a half inch.
Yesterday with a clean barrel and not as good conditions, slight breeze gusting at the end and forgetting much proper shooting glasses and shooting 1 yard longer it was night and day better.
No real huge advantage on the groups of center x.
I think maybe human factor comes in after shooting too many groups as you can see the first averages of center x are the best getting worse down the line. I was rushing a bit as a storm cell was heading my way and I wanted to complete 1 25 round group from all 5 lot# of center x

Cleanliness is next to godliness ;) Hey with lot # 704 you got your challenge group of .2's and .3's! I'm not surprised to hear about the accuracy loss, as a new rifle it's gunna lead up quickly during your first few range sessions as all the sharp edges in the barrel tear up the bullets. IMO new rifles should be thoroughly cleaned after every range session until 500-1000 rounds have been shot. Things should be sufficiently smoothed out after this or "broken-in" if you will then the rifle will likely tolerate more rounds fired without accuracy loss or experience a significant and dramatic drop off. I've had a rifle shooting 1.5" + then cleaned at the range and immediately back under 1" groups. In this case the shooter (savagecanuck) was able to detect that something was off in his equipment beyond his typical human influence. Fortunately it was easily resolved with a simple cleaning and performance went back up to the shooters expectations of himself with the equipment.

Yes it was pretty easy to tell something wasn't right with the poor performance. Glad I cut the trip short before using up anymore valuable center X.
Yes I was very happy to see a 25 shot group with no .4,s in it .That's my personal best challenge group!
Fortunately I still have 1 full brick and a box of lot # 704.
I hope you're right Rabid and the accuracy will remain for 500-1000 rounds.
As a side note make sure all of you store your lubed ammo out of the heat. It ruins it other wise. I often get lazy and leave the unused range ammo in my box we're it gets hot in the Okanagan summer.

I have a 64MPR and it was flat out crap out of the box. I did a fair bit of work to it, pillars from underside, welded the 2 piece trigger guard/bottom plate together, bedded it all. Now it shoots like it should. I have pics somewhere of what I did to it, I'll find them again someday...
Ejection still sucks though so I leave the mag out and they can drop under.

They come with pillars now and they finally fixed the ejection issues. Mine has not had one issue with FTE, FTF. The mag release was sticky but I adjusted it and the mag falls right out now.

The little steel sleeve "pillars" they come with are sh*t(bought mine about 3yrs ago). The whole thing is way too sloppy, put your thumb on the barrel sideways while holding the stock and see how much it can move, too many pieces, that's why I welded that trigger guard and bedded everything. Doesn't move now. I only had mine at the range once as is, all it could do was shoot 2 groups, that was enough of that.
Decent pretty looking rifle though.
Maybe they fixed the ejection issues, I guess a few people had a fix for it but I didn't bother yet.
