35 Whelen

Yup, it's called the "BDL sporter w/checkering" (I believe). I still can't believe how well it fits me compared to other B&C stocks.
One more request about your stock please. What is the length of the forend from the front of the receiver?

Thanks, Paul

Good to see all the 35 Whelen fans. I have had a few of them and now have settled on a Montana Rifle Co. M1999. Love the rifle and the caliber. I am thinking on having the barrel shortened from 24" down to 20". I figured if I do I will post some before and after velocities with a few loads for people who are interested. That Nosler in 35 Whelen is cool as hell, as are the others posted here. I love the nostalgia of the 35 Whelen. It makes me think of all those good old boys back in the twenties and thirties who were able to bore out or re-barrel their 30-06 to a medium bore back before you were being able to buy one at any gun store. A revolutionary cartridge when it was developed and hasn't lost any practicality over the years.

I am shooting the same weight...... interested in the load.......

I cant remember off the top of my head but I believe its 62grs of varget. Winchester primer and nosler 35whelen head stamped brass.2850fps over my chrono. It puts 3 rounds touching at 150yards.
Im going to try another powder this winter. I find varget very hard to get top velocity out of this cartridge.

This is a beautiful gun. Talk about an all-rounder for North American big game.

I'm the other half of that trade. It was a good trade and suited both of us although it pains me when Jay posts pictures of her. I still have a couple Whelens so you don't need to worry or feel sorry for me. However, that Nosler Outfitter is one kickass rifle!!!

That's fairly quick for a Whelen..... and over max according to Nosler (not that that means much).....

On one of my other Whelens I loaded the Barnes TSX 200gr over 59gr of IMR4064, it was moving right at 2800fps. Accuracy was about 1 MOA. If I recall the bullets were seating out a fair bit.
