I was thinking about ordering guide pants and jacket from kuiu. I was reading reviews and they all.seem good. I was wondering if anyone has experience with kuiu guide and how waterproof and windproof are really. Also do they attract those weeds that stick to your clothing like velcro. We have tons of that stuff in ontario.

I believe the guide pant and jacket are considered water resistant. I have experience with their gear as well as Sitka and recommend them both.

I think water resistant does not mean waterproof. Does anyone know if the clothing absorbs water and weighs it down. I hate that

That was the point I was making...it is not waterproof. Their site details which lines are waterproof and which are not. I have the Yukon pants and jacket which are water/wind proof and very heavy duty but its probably double the cost of the guide pant....all of that aside it is great kit.

I've had the jacket for several years. It's a great jacket, durable and cuts wind well, but it's not waterproof. When new it's very water resistant, good in light rains. As it ages the DWR degrades and looses effectiveness. Washing with appropriate soap, then using a wash in DWR, like Nikwax's product, gets it back working as new. The Guide line relies heavily on an effective DWR treatment. But then so do supposedly waterproof lines of clothing, IME.

It will take on water in a downpour, or especially if you're bushwacking in the rain or wet snow. But like most modern synthetics, it dries out very quickly. I usually just 'wear it dry'.

I like my guide jacket, athletic fit with room to layer and the high pockets work well with a backpack. It's not waterproof but I haven't been in a downpour and the DWR coating is still good on mine.

I really like there camo pattern the white and brown. Looks cool very unique and it would be great in the winter.

I own the guide pants and guide vest. Burrs do not stick to them. I have also found them to be very water repellent. I waded across a river in them last year (ran like a maniac) using some gaiters, got to the other side and I was completely dry. I have also hunted all day in the rain with them and experienced no dampness. Durability is ok, I have several small tears in them from 3 seasons, especially from talus. Another plus is they come in 35" inseam so they come down over your boots nicely. The zippers are great and the buttons. The zipper toggles are garbage though. Washing and drying does not cause any shrinkage either.

They are very warm though, thankfully they have leg vents that allow you to dump heat well if you choose to open those up. They are my favourite hunting pant once the temperature get down to about 5*C. Otherwise Prana Zion stretch are the bee's knees!

Thanks for the details. Will definetly have to buy them.

Love my guide pants and jacket. They are water resistant until the dwr coating wears off. Just like any soft shell jacket /pants. If you are looking for rain gear check out the Yukon or chugach line up.

I guide on the north coast BC in a Yukon suit when doing mountain goats. Wettest place there is, geographically a stone's throw from Ketchikan, Alaska. Even the rain gear is NOT waterproof, it's very water resistant. I bring Helly Hansen and wear the Yukon suit as my outer clothes. The problem with breathable waterproofs is once saturated, it's wet for the rest of the hunt. And you cant really transpire water by body heat when equal amounts are inside and outside the suit. Rubber isn't comfortable but there's a reason it's what you see the fishermen in.
