Old vs new Marlin 336C?

My 336 is from the early 60's and it's a great shooter. From my experience I'd buy an older gun

My own 336 is a 1969 gun.

Quality-wise, it doesn't look much different really than what I recall about the 336 I bought in 1982.

But, like yours, it does shoot really, really good groups.

It came with a proper high-quality 3/32" gold bead front sight.

My 1982 Model 336 (and later ones) had a cheap cast brass front sight, anodized black.

Thanks guys, so it looks like as a '75 I'm safe territory for a decent marlin. Here is a photo;

I'm going to try and take a look at it in person this week to give it a thorough going over. Might be more money than I have stashed away but ya never know without making an offer!

[edit] So rear sight has been replaced with a peep[/edit]

Really nice rifle.

Just out of curiousity, is the peep a Lyman or a Williams sight?

If a 1970s Lyman, those were all-machined-steel, and fairly expensive even then. That would be a bonus.

If a Williams, these are okay.
