22-250 Coyote Bullets - M700 Remington

I bought a Remington M700 SPS Varmint, with the 26" HB, 1:14 twist rate.

Anybody have advice on optimum bullet weights, for that twist rate?

I'm thinking gotta be somewhere around 50-55 gr??

Also, anybody with a similar twist rate rifle, that has load advice??
 
That Remington will handle any bullet up to 55 grains nicely.
I favor 52 and 53 grain pills, but the 50 V-max and Ballistic tips are equally good choices.

Try IMR 4064, H380, IMR or H4895, Vihtavuori N140 or N540, Ramshot TAC, or Reloder 15.

Sooner or later you will see a splash with the v-max and other bullets of similar design in 22 cal. The nosler ballistic tip is a far better choice. Or one of the tough sp from Hornady or sierra. The 52 matching also has a great reputation out of the 22-250 but not so much the 223. It needs decent speed to work well.
 
My standard 22/250 coyote hide saving bullet for many years is the 52 grain Berger Varmint Match over 34 grains of IMR 4895 in the Nosler brass. Max loads seem to vary between 34 and 37 depending on the source, but I'm getting 3850 fps out of a 26" 1-14 with great accuracy and case life that seems to be tied with forever. A very good friend uses the same bullet with a couple more grains of H4895. If I would have tried Hodgdons instead of IMR first maybe I'd be doing the same, who knows.

This flat based Berger is very forgiving and I haven't met a .22/250 that wouldn't shoot it yet. Or a .223 for that matter.
 
Ok, I ordered 52gr Hornady Match BTHP.

I have H380, H4985, IMR-4064.

Yesterday I got the rifle sighted in, using factory 55gr Winchester SP. Nothing spectacular, but 'minute of coyote'.

Today I went and picked up some factory 45gr HP Winchesters and 50gr Hornady VMax, just to try them out.

The 45gr and 50gr bullets shot a full 2" higher, than the 55gr.

And all they proved was I really need to handload!

But of the 3 diff' I tried, the 55gr shot the most consistent. Fwiw...

With different weight bullets POI can be expected. H380 was designed for the 22-250 with 52 gr pills so thats what i would start with. My prefered coyote load is a 50gr vmax with 38 gr of h380.
 
Don't no any thing about that twist rate of barrel but I use to have a heavy barrel 22-250 model 700 BDL and shot mostly speer 70 gr bullets and they did less damage on coyotes then the lighter ones for me any way, and were also very good on deer especially at 150 yds or so and further, but that doesn't help you in alberta.
 
For years in my 22-250 (CZ550LUX) and couple friends 22-250 ive always loaded 50 or 55gr bullets.. 1st it was 55gr Sierra BlitzKings and Varget that would place 3 into 3/4"@ 200yards, after wanting a bit more velocity i jumped to 50gr V-max or Blitzkings and H4895 for an honest 3970FPS. So far no issues on performance on yotes out to 300yards and had a vmax clear clean threw a groundhog @150 this spring.

Lapua Brass, CCI BR2 Primers
CZ550Lux, Tikka T3 light, Rem 700 CDL and Rem788 are the guns i all reload for and all guns shoot reloads under 1"
 
I have a 700 VSSF II and I shoot Nosler 55gr Ballistic tips and they shoot dang good, easily under .75" groups with good regularity. 34.7 grains of Varget loaded to 2.440"
 
I tried 3 powders and 3 bullets for my 24" 1/14 twist BDL. I settled on Reloder-15 and 50 gr Blitzkings. This load was sub 1/4 MOA and 3750 fps...about a 4.5" drop at 300yds. It is not a fur friendly bullet however.
 
The Remington 50 grain Power Lock Hollow Point did not exit when lung shot on dogs. They also come in 55 grain and in 6mm there is an 80 grain pill.
This use to be Remington's version of a match bullet. My 22-250 was rebarreled using a 26" 223 barrel with a 1 in 12 twist and will group the 50's under an inch at 200 meters.
 
I have the Remington 700 26" Varmint with 14" twist. It's best bullets so far for accuracy, are 50gr. TSX with 36.0gr. IMR4064 and the 62gr. Nosler Varmegeddon with 35.0gr. IMR6064. Both loads are listed just under max, however they are both max. in my rifle due to the standard oversized firing pin hole in m700's.

Both of these bullets are close in point of impact and both run right at the 1/2" range, ie: .4" to .6" for 5 at 100 meters, using a Harris bipod and 6-18X44 Crossfire Vortex scope. That is an 11 pound rig. So far the other bullets tried run in the 3/4" to 1 1/4" range. New rifle and more work to do.

The .22-250 is certainly not a picky eater, shoots flat and hits hard - guess that is why it is popular.
 
I loaded up a 40gr Sierra hp in one 22/250 this year to test on yotes and in my second 22/250 I've loaded up the Sierra 55gr hpbt gameking. I'll know more shortly how they work on coyotes.
 
One of my most accurate coyote loads was 52 gr hornady bthp match. Tough enough to push through thick winter coats and still behave like a h.p. 36 gr of varget and winchester primer.
 
Iv shot the 50gr speer varmints out of my ol 788 for years very accurate bullets ..fur friendly past 200 not so much at 100 and under .have now switched to 52 gr A max on advice from a buddy ... was out with him last fall and shot one at 150yrds hit in the neck wasnt even a bloodspot on the snow so i bought 3 boxes and worked up a load

That 52gr Hornady Match BTHP is the bullet I am going to try. I think H4895 will be the powder I start with.
