Baiting with carrots?

The deer around here have never seen nor heard of nor smelled a carrot before and won't eat them .

We have used carrots for years and pretty much always shoot a deer or two on the carrot stand. Never heard anything about carrots been harmful and we have deer come to the piles every year!

if the carrots freeze or almost freeze ( in november the do) ,yes it can be harmful to deer, the energy required to digest those is more then the energy given by the digestion of "frozen carrots" ... ....so yes, too put trailer full of carrots in the wood is STUPID maybe you call this hunting..i don't!!!

I used apples and carrots one year plus a bit of cracked corn and the deer ate the corn first before the veggies. I had a bucket of apples beside the blind and they used to eat right out of the bucket. Can't see how carrots could harm them as they are just veggies. The one year in Alberta the stupid coyotes dug up all my carrots before I go them.

It WAS the same in the Almaguin district .... but they learned. One bin of carrots two weeks ago are completely gone !

Does anyone know the regs for deer baiting in Quebec? I can't find anything online, and hear different crap...can feed only before the season starts, can feed only during the season, can feed year round.... can't all be right lol

I have never thought of using carrots for bait. I have seen deer ear the carrot leaves in fields before, but I have not seen one actually eat a carrot. It could be worth a try.

Feed them all you want, we've been feeding them for the last two months. Even if you don't harvest one you help them to get stronger for the winter.
We are near Kazabazua.
Have a good and safe hunt.

I am at a conference in Houghton, on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, at the moment. Every gas station has hundreds of big bags of apples, carrots, corn, and sugar beets piled up beside the pumps.

Looks like everybody is getting ready to make a huge pot of borscht.

carrots have very low nutrition value( they are mostly water and non digestable fiber) deer eat a lot of them think they are full( but they can actually starve to death eating a lot of carrots).

I know some Haliburton deer who love carrots. Those big #2 culls - drive back and forth over them to break them up, then the fawns can eat them.
