in 3 weeks the gun season starts up for deer for many hunters. What kind of firearms and ammo is everyone packing? Are you trying any new ideas this year? taking any new hunters out for their first deer hunt?

I am taking my plain Jane M305S and will have it loaded with 165gn SP InterLock Hornady American Whitetail. This year for baiting we will be using a apple and corn mix, along with salt licks and liberal use of Buck Commander liquid bait. Last year the deer went nuts for it. We will have 3 areas set up for bait in a fairly heavily wooded area with small marshy clearings. We saw 6 does last year and got one No bucks were seen at all. This year no one drew a doe tag in the lottery.

I am also taking my youngest brother out on his first deer hunt. He just got his PAL and hunting license this year. He will be using his short bbl Rem 870 "turkey slayer" shotgun with slugs. Hopefully we can get him a deer to take home to his family.

I'll either be using my Ruger compact in .308 with 150gr blue box federals or I just got a new ruger 77/44 that may come out using 240gr rem soft points. Been baiting wth apples and have 5-6 doe on a daily basis and a little spike horn that likes to come around now and again

Same as always, Tikka 695 in 30-06 with a VXII 3-9x40 on top.

150gr Winchester partition golds out the business end.

Hunting with same bud I've hunted with for the past 3 years and we have another guy joining us after a year off for back problems.

The bush we hunt acts different every year, so after a bit of scouting in the next few weeks, we'll come up with a game plan to start the season.

Good luck to everyone heading out!

Ryan

Put a red dot on the ruger scout for dogging / spot and stalk........ got the 7-08 sighted in with 140 grainers for week two when I am on stand overlooking my feed plot....... as always, if I still have a tag left in December, the BP rifle is good to go.....

Ground blind and tree stand sit. Bringing the 7mm Rem Mag and 260 Rem - 162 gr and 123 gr. Looking forward to trying rattling and grunting. Never use bait but have nothing against it.

week 1 browning gold 3 1/2" with cantilever scope mount with leupold ultimateslam
week 2 T/C encore with 20ga barrel and topped with redfield revolution accurange
and if we still have tags
BP week; T/C with 50cal barrel topped with leupold ultimateslam

Yep Crossbow (since the first of Oct) until the gun starts. Then my 243 goes to the stand for the gun, then back to the bow if I still have a tag.

It's been warm with little to no buck sign in my piece of Eastern Ontario (67). Hopefully we get a rut this year - not much of anything last year, but at least that pumped up our sales of bows and black powder stuff to all the guys that saw nothing in the gun...

CVA Muzzle loader for the control hunt, tree stand opening morning, followed by some still hunting.... Getting excited just thinking about it, can't wait.
Best of luck to all
