I've recently come into possession of a sporterised Engineers Krag, and have decided to attempt a full(ish) restoration over the winter.
So far I have managed to get a buttplate, and the two metal bands (front and middle).
Without any prospect of finding myself an original stock set I've set about to make one of my own. I have a general idea of the overall shape and length in relation to the metal (the sporter stock it came with also helps) but what I do not have is some specifics, regarding the upper handguard.
How were they attached? Was there a lip and a ring at the knox of the barrel? Was it just held on by the two bands? Did it have a spring-clip like the No 1 Mk 3 Enfields?
Anyone who might have some information available I would greatly appreciate it.
Rifle as it is now.
