Hi all,

I have had my restricted for many years now and live in Alberta. A friend of mine just passed his non/restricted PAL test in Ontario about 6 weeks ago and is waiting on his paperwork.

Things have changed I guess, because he mentioned to me that once his PAL shows up he can purchase a restricted firearm and leave with it the same day. No need to be a member of a gun club, no waiting etc..

Any input n this is appreciated.

Thanks,

Rob

Yeah not true he doesn't know what he is talking about. Currently right now it seems to take the Ont CFO 8 days thru a store to process the transfer. I just had a private transfer take like 3 weeks

Thanks for to C42 he doesn't have to Joined a club and wait to have the club apply for an ATT anymore. however whether the Ontario CFO will transfer his new purchase in a timely fashion that is a whole different story.

For as long as I can remember, it has not been a law in Ontario that you must be a member of a gun club to own, transfer etc. a restricted gun. I have been at Questar for 6 years and that's never been the case. It's the only province or territory that allows that, even without collector status. The transfer doesn't have anything to do with C-42.

Also, you can get a gun transferred in a couple hours IF you can get a hold of someone at the CFO. It's is possible.

Fastest transfer I had was 24 hours. BUT I started it in the morning and my buyer called within the hour...

I'm guessing it must've been a slow day, because since then they've all taken an average of 4-5 days.

So have I but never in the same day and I believe what we are referring too is transferred in the same day

Happened once to me...was at least a year or two ago...bought a pistol from a retailer right when they opened (so say sale finalized by 10:30am). Got a call from the store that afternoon around 16:00 saying I could pick up the gun...was stunned (as was the retailer)...Has never happened before or since...and no one believes me when I tell the story...Especially since lately, even store transfers take 5-10 days it seems.

Window of opportunity to get a restricted firearm now before the Goodale bill rolls back c42.
The old paper atts will be back but the cfsc test challenge option won't.
The government will cherry pick the bad sections out of c42 (like the mandatory cfsc course) and keep them.

Hence my "it is possible".

I've seen it happen at my LGS. The buyer was from the Island and didn't want to come back to pick it up or didn't want it shipped. They made the call and the guy got it released to him when I walked into the store. The buyer was bragging about how it was the fastest transfer he had ever done. Took about 3 hrs IIRC.

Hi guys,
I'm looking to buy my first restricted firearm. I have an RPAL. I was told that I need to be a member of a gun club/range at leat twice when inquiring to purchase online. One retailer mentioned that the RCMP needs to release an ATT for any restricted purchase. Is this true? If not, why do most retailers ask for club info in the purchase forms?
