Good day all. I recently acquired a nice refurbished bnz 44 K98 and need some help with this (refurb?) marking on the receiver just above the bnz stamp. The rifle has been polished with the NATZI proofs scrubbed off at the same time.
The rifle is not a RC and has been locked away in the back of the previous owners safe for the last 15 to 20 years at least. It's all stamped matching with the exception of the back sight.
Any ideas?

I know the only 2 K43's I've seen had lots of machining marks and were very rough finish wise. Not quite as bad as in that pic but bad enough. It was almost like they were finished crudely by hand without much care.
Could be just a rough finish and not damage but .... could have been damage too.

Can you tell us the story on this one? Looks like serious damage??

No damage that I can see,the receivers were all roughly forged and only machined in the areas where it mattered,This one is rougher than my 1944 G43,but they were all rough looking
on the bolt carrier as well.
Towards the end of the war the Germans needed productions so a lot of machining was not done anymore,if you look at a G41 and compare it to the G43,totally different, the G41 was
nicely machined in all areas.
