So I've been experimenting with various 223 rifles for Tac Rifle matches, and I still haven't found a perfect sweet spot in terms of recoil mitigation, barrel length, weight.

My main rig is a beastly 11 pounder with a 1-6x optic, and a piston upper. My times with this one is competitive but damn it's uncomfortable when running on long stages.

Backup rig is around 7 pounds with a short barrel, DI, and micro RDS optics. the problem with this one is that after a first shot, good luck with a followup due to the lightness of the gun.

Sounds like you need a better brake or to tune down your gas system. What weight buffer are you running?

Are you competing at a track & field meet or a shooting match?

Some of the Service Rifle/CQB events require multiple 100 yard rundowns with full kit within the same stage from 500-400-300-200-100. Lighter is always better but if I really wanted to save weight, its better (and much cheaper) for me to drop 10-20 pounds of my body weight than try to shave it from my AR.
