What mags drop free from the Tavor?

Want to get some 10rd pistol mags for my Tavor. I compete a bit in IPSC and want mags that are longer than the regular aluminum LAR-15 mags to facilitate loading. I realize I can pick up GS design bases to make up the length or connect them via wedges. Looking for alternatives before going that route.

I would like to know if any of the longer polymer 10rd pistol mags made by ATRS or others will drop free. I had an ATRS mag back when I had an AR and loved it and it dropped free but I sold it with an SL8 before I bought the Tavor. I had a P mag but it would not drop free so I am cautious of purchasing my next mags.

Thanks for helping out.

With the correct manual of arms on the Tavor drop free really does not matter. Breaking your trigger finger hand grip to change mags will make for a less consistent shooting grip and may begin to bruise the base of your thumb after repeated use. These reasons coupled with the unpredictable reliability of mags dropping free makes me prefer strip and replace metho which in my experiences can be just as fast if practiced right.

It's not an AR. It's not designed to be ran like an AR. While running it kinda like an AR can be instinct it may be counter productive against the proper manual of arms. Just some food for thought. I encourage you to practice the proper manual of arms, it becomes second nature after a couple dozen reps.

^This.

Proper mags for the Tavor are important, i avoid the Gen2 Pmags, but Gen3 are GTG as are USGI, many flavors of beo and LARs. Drop free isn't even a consideration for me when sourcing mags for the Tavor.

I haven't used her in competition yet and was practicing both the proper way and the bump with back of firing hand method.

Found the bump method faster, provided I didn't screw it up and only for a limited number of reps before I would get my hand too banged up. I find the proper method slightly slower but consistent and that C word usually what wins matches.

In the interest of being practical and the fact that I respect you guys with plenty of experience with the rifle, I will begin using the proper method of mag change. As well I therefore think I will chase down mags from ATRS. Mike the ones that don't drop free I assume don't take much effort to haul out?

BTW have plenty of AA BW mags. They are/were the way to go but with the FRT fiasco ongoing with guys getting dragged through the courts I am retreating back to 10rd pistol mags. Doubt with what is going on if IPSC matches would even allow BW mags anymore.

Thanks guys.

The metal mag that came with mine does not drop free, anyone experienced the same thing?
It seems very heavy duty and robust, and larger than my other metal mags.

All my other separately purchased mags work good.

Running the Zahal courses I've seen a wide range of tolerances in the magazine wells from various waves of Tavor rifles.

Part of why all our instruction involves stripping the empty mag as step 1 of your reload. If mags drop free, great, but don't count on it.

On my personal rifle my Lancer, IMI beowulf, Magpul Gen3 Pmags, LAR pistol mags, Hyperion USGI, CF USGI, and Alexander Arms Beowulf mags all drop free. My Gen 2 pmags don't, nor does my Troy battlemag.

For me all my usgi and similar metal mags drop free though that isn't a consideration for me as I strip the mags out. I ran 10 rnd rra pistol mags at the tavor class and 8 out of 10 drop free. 2 don't for some reason. Non of my pmags drop free regardless of generation.

I found these Keltec 2x10rd pistol mags ganged together by a clamp at the LGS today. $75. These any good?

Did I just hijack my own thread?

I'm having the same trouble. I can't even cycle the action with a full (4round :/) magazine bc the ####ing thing jams. My rifle won't eject the chamber round before halfass loading a new one. I havent even shot the damn thing yet adn its brand new. Is this a tavor issue or the e-lander magazine?

The E-Lander mags work flawlessly every time, your gun does not come with a E-Lander mag. E-Lander mags have E-Lander stamped into the side of them.

more likely a kandi issue
are you riding the charging handle?
sounds like the initial cartridge didnt get caught by the bolt slamming home and knocked into the bolt.
try this
1 leave the frigging thing alone
2 go to the range
3 clear the rifle, while locking bolt back, put it on safe
4 while pointing tavor downrange, insert full mag on an open bolt, make sure it is seated in
5 click bolt release button to slam bolt into battery
6 remove satefy
7 fire

ATRS pistol mags work perfectly and so does the Beowulf.

Who runs 5 rounds anyways...lol...

The factory mag was trown in the garbage were it belongs.
