Value of a pre 64 model 70 in 300H&H?

Saw a very nice pre-64 M70 300H&H at the gunshow in Stony Plain yesterday. Looked to be a standard grade in excellent condition, all original, with a $1650 price tag.

That one had both metal and wood refinished. It is also a low comb stock which does not work well with a scope.

That's a $1200 rifle tops.

That rifle has been bouncing around gun shows for 2 years, first time I saw it the price was $2100.

In my experience the low comb stock has no effect on value as both work well with a scope if it's mounted correctly. . I have both high and low comb stocks on my pre-64 M70's and mount the scope low on the low comb and a tad higher with the high comb stocks. . If the scope is mounted a tad too high with the low comb stock it can be PIA for sure.

The re-blue and wood refinish cuts the value in half. . If it's that noticeable, more than half. . I learned it's wise to pass on these type of guns and wait for an original and when you do get an original, for a few dollars more, you realize the value of originality.

I'd drop $2500 on a new Sako bolt in 300 Win or Wea mag before I'd buy a used Win 70 either pre or post 64.
