what is a well used Dillon 550b progressive with 2 tool heads & 2 shell plates worth used. powder tube is stained from use. 2 sets of dies but Non Dillon brand.

I was offered a used one today & was thinking about buying it just don't know what it's worth?

I sold one at the Calgary show a year ago with a few extras for $450, it sold within 10 min of doors opening. staining of powder tube won't detract from use or price at all, some powder brands stain them (tight group for one) some doesn't.
 
Which conversions? If you load .223, is that caliber included? Any other extras, like strong mount or roller handle?
What make dies? Caliber? How about other accessories like primer tray, primer tubes, low primer warning buzzer, low powder warning?

I'd say it's worth at least $400 if just a bare bones 550 and a couple of basic die sets is a fair price.

a couple of shell plates all large caliber & a 38/357 plate. primer flip trays, Lee & RCBS dies 308/270/300wm & 38/357 no Dillon dies. primer warning 3 tool heads that is it.

No strong mount or roller handle. it has the older ball handle

I'd say that's a decent price if it's all in good shape and stuff you would use. You might be able to sell the stuff you don't need too. Do the shell plates have all the little locating pins with them? Those can be easy to lose. I just checked the current price where I bought mine a couple years ago and it's up over $700 with a single caliber conversion, but that doesn't include dies.

Given the C$ continued drop, $450 isn't a bad deal if it's in decent condition. Especially if you're getting $50-$100 worth of extras, and don't have to pay shipping or tax.
If the seller put it on the ee for $450 I expect it would be gone first day, probably first hour.

Roller handle is nice, but I've managed to reload 10K+ with the regular handle just fine.
$450 is a fair price.

If you buy it and don't want the .38 dies / plate ... I'm sure we can work something out.

I think it's obvious that it's a good price based on the serpents in this thread. :)

Dillon stuff holds its value because it's top quality gear with an amazing transferable warranty and history of excellent customer service. Each of those cal conversion kits are $75 without tax or shipping new. The dies are $40-$70 ea. depending on what they are. Toolheads are $30 ea before tax and shipping. At $450 you can't go wrong. I think a basic 550B with one cal and a single toolhead would easily sell on the EE for $500 plus shipping.

There's lots of people looking to upgrade or even just saving for their first Dillon and coming across a used one for $300 less than new would be a dream. You just don't see them for sale too often.
 
I'll try and see if we can connect for this Dillon. I personally would be happy with a single stage press as I'm only loading .223 3x times a year.

I have owned a Dillon 450 & 550b before but that was back in the mid 90's I'm just so out of touch with reloading these days so I didn't know the used value, as I just buy a box or 2 if needed these days.
