What rimfire rifle to buy

i would prefer a semi auto, something that is ready to go out of the box, i do not want to have to make a ton of modifications to the rifle to get it to shoot well, now the internet has lead me to anschutz rifles, look good, this MSR seems interesting , anyone carry it up here? price? can't seem to find them on nordic marksmans website

That's a lot of money for a rifle that will shoot only moderately better than a good commercial bolt action, what models were you looking at in Anschutz

The peitta ppsh50 and a GSG stg44 are fun guns to go plink with. As far as i know there is no mag restrictions with these yet. you can get a drum mag for the ppsh50 too!
The stg44 is a looker but is kind of a pig weight wise.

What are they made of (I mean the stocks)?

bought the ruger 10/22 as I was in the store and they had it, but i'm thinking i'll pick up an anschutz as well, main reason is to plink, some small game hunting as well, teach my nephews to shoot as well, 5 and 6

You may want to look at a Remington 552 Speedmaster. I used to used to own one years ago when I first got in the shooting.A lack of judgement cost me to sell it was very accurate with a scope, cycled very well and has a very different look. They hold something like 17 Long rifle and 25 shorts and even cycle the shorts really well too. They're a little expensive but can be found used. To me they are a real gem and I'm surprised not many people talk about them. Especially the BDL models

You will be pleased with the Ruger for it is a fun gun to use.
The anshutz you will find will be a much nicer rifle that is much more accurate out of the box.

You can't beat those older 552's they are quite an accurate rifle. Mine has a old weaver 3 power scope and can shoot some pretty decent groups still.

I have 4 rimfires, an old cooey 600 thats been in the family for years, a norinco short backpacker, a norinco ns522, and a remington 597.

It all depends on who comes to the range or the field with me. Someone new to shooting, or someone that I am trying to get to enjoy shooting, I bring the 597. A semi is always fun for a new person. If I go alone, it's either the backpacker or the ns522. I love the little backpacker. Such a good rifle. I always smile taking down gophers 50-75 yards away with such a little gun. I owned a 10/22 back in the day, and while it was good, i ended up selling it for the 597. The next rimfire I'd like is a marlin papoose, again for the fun factor with the new people. Ive read they are rather accurate as well.

Children, on the other hand, get a bolt action. It's much less dangerous, I find.

Simply my opinion! Take it for what it's worth.

I purchased a CZ 455, and am very happy with it. Very nice rifle. I recently purchased a .22 WMR barrel for it, and may pick up a .17 HMR barrel at some point. If switch-barrels are any attraction to you, check out the CZ's!

If someone has not mentioned it yet, buy the Marlin 795. I love it so much more then my Ruger 10/22. You can pick one up for $150-180. The only thing I did on mine was put some tech sights on it. Super Accurate for the price.

Yes definitely look at the marlin 795. The 25 round promag magazines work great in mine. VERY accurate and lots of fun! Not one failure of any kind and I've been through about 500 rounds of cheap ammo.

Savage .17 HMR in stainless.... love it. I never shoot my ruger / or my 597 any more. Whats the point? the .hmr is SO fast and accurate. makes them gophers explode :)

For a bolt I would go CZ for sure, then semi if you like the Ruger like I did but wanted a more "quality" rifle then the Dlask Dar22 is awesome. And yes I had Ruger sold them and still have my Dar 22 but it does cost more, but you said you want quality :)

If you don't mind paying $25 a box of 50. I shoot my hmr a whole lot less now. Don't thing I shot 50 rounds this year even. Used to be my favourite gopher caliber too. When a guy can reload 223 or similar for the same price or less makes you not want to shoot hmr very much.
