New wingmasters feel like cheap knock off in comparison to a 50 yr old one

Cars and guns are not the same. Very little hand finishing when assembling a 1964 Mustang, lots of it in 1964 gun manufacturing.

In an era long gone there was a lot of hand finishing on parts so that they matched "just so". There was a lot more polishing and attention to detail when assembling a gun and the end product reflected that. Nowadays, because paying a craftsman (or woman) their value is expensive it's more of a "parts assembly" world when it comes to firearms. Don't believe me, find someone with a little used Colt Python and look at the blued finish and trigger pull. Same thing with an 870 (or just about anything that's been around. Compare a new 10/22 to an old one, the new ones are utter crap in comparison).

Shops like Wilson Combat, Les Baer, Ed Brown, et al still assemble and fit parts by hand. That's why their guns don't cost $459.00 each.

A Classic is a classic is a classic no matter if it is a gun or a car...
Wingmasters are not $459.00 firearms.
The thread is obviously someone not happy or bored to tears ...
Just my .03 worth .

The OP isn't asking if it's a classic, he asked (more or less) if was the same quality level, the correct answer is NO.

I didn't say the Wingmaster was $459.00, I alluded to the fact that hand finishing gun & gun parts, as they did in times gone by, was expensive.

I won't argue with you, you're entitled to your opinion (even incorrect as it is ;) ), there are more important issues at hand, like, what's better, 9MM or ACP ................

BJP, we are are entitled to our sometimes misguided opinions but who was arguing you, me ?
The thread is more or less a fishing expedition for who knows what ?

There is very little meat and a whole bunch of feathers in the opening thread in my opinion.

Are there better firearms of yore than today or the other way around ?
My examples where to simply imply that and of course being a stubborn old fart I prefer a Good WingMaster over an express that most everyone nowadays thinks is the WingMaster.

As for the 9mm, I'll take the Parabellum any day with less punishing recoil and the ability to recovery quickly for more followups if need be.
Tight Groups,
Rob

Are you referring to an actual "Wingmaster" or simply bumping all 870's into the same category? Difference between a $400 express, and a $1000 Wingmaster.
