Good Day eh!

Reloading newbie here, with a pound of H4895, 150 gr. Gamekings, and an M1 Garand. I'm not sure how much difference there is between H4895 and IMR 4895, but all the load data I've found was only for the IMR powder.

If anyone has some op-rod safe pet load data, or some helpful advice, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Thanks for the link, that looks like a great resource, but I didnt see anything for specific Garand loadings. I am a little paranoid of bending an oprod, seeing as Garand parts are harder to find now it seems.

46.2 gr of H-4895 and any 147-150 gr projectile is my plinking load for the Garland rifle. Works better in some than others, but I've never had a Garand that didn't shoot that load passably well.

Cheers!

I use 46gr Varget, or 47gr RL15 for my M1's and Hrn 150fmj's...as long as velocity is in the 2650-2800fps range it will shoot pretty good and not cause any excessive wear.

I am not a gas gun fan, having experienced the frustration of a Remington 1100 that was very picky about loading, and I cannot help you out with specific powders or loads. What I do know is that like any other gun you have to stay within a safe pressure for the chamber, but in addition you have to be concerned about the "port pressure", or the pressure in the barrel when the bullet passes the gas port. Too little and your gun will not cycle properly. Too much and you could damage the action.

The point is that you should not just use any safe bolt gun load, as they only consider peak pressure, not port pressure. You should be looking at M1 proven loads, and stick to those powders and loadings. The specific powder burn rate and loading will affect port pressure. Here is a link that explains the issue of port pressure:
