Wholesale Sports Regina closing by years end

I've always enjoyed shopping at the Nanaimo location, and I've spent thousands of dollars there.

I would hate to see "my" WSS location close.
Same here. Went in for large pistol primers last night. All they had was federal match primers. They sold them to me for the price of regular 210 federals. I didn't ask for a price reduction, they offered it. I've always received good service there and do spend thousands as well. I wouldn't be happy if they closed.

Funny, Cabela's bought SIR (Sydney I Robinson) because it was MAKING money, but 3rd generation didn't want to run it, just wanted the money. They had the best mail-order company since Sears gave it up. Ready-built, proven distribution system. Owner in-fighting. Perfect situation to buy into.
I have never had a "not-in-stock" issue at Cabela's. I've had a "never stock" response and they just told me to go to the south store where it was always stocked. Good people overall at both AB stores.
WSS? Not so much. Hardly ever anyone who knows anything, especially at the gun counter.

The WSS in Calgary isn't bad, but if you go during peak weekend hours and want to see something behind the gun counter you could be waiting a while. Generally the staff are helpful and as reasonably knowledgeable as could be expected at a chain retail store. I find the store layout kind of weird, sort of like products were just randomly placed wherever...their website could also be better.

Well I guess in probably 6 months time many of us will regret even more than we do now the store closing. As it relates strictly to firearms, reloading and such I don't see TNT picking up any of the vacuum left by the store's closing and Cabela's has never been as strong as WS in the areas of reloading, cleaning supplies, etc. I've found neither of the stores treaded too much on each others firearms inventory - probably because their distributors paid attention to that. Sure I can stop in Avonlea or S'toon if I happen to be passing through but it won't be the same as popping in after work or skipping out to pick something up. Likely more online ordering for now. I would of hoped that the store would of considered relocating/downsizing to reduce costs among other things before abruptly pulling the pin on the Regina marketplace. I'm sure some of the employees feel the same - I wish them the best in finding new employment.

Bought all my rifles from Darryl when I lived in Regina. He even brought in Volquartsen barrels and accessories for my 10/22 before that stuff became cool. Good guy.

WSS sports was the go to for reloading in the 90s and early 00s. It has been #### for a long time. In saskatoon it was last good two buildings ago. Has been crap since they moved in their first new building.

I miss SIR.

I was just in there, and without question received my quarterly reminder of exactly why they're closing. My least favorite gun counter guy was there, as unhelpful as ever!! When I first got there I could here him explaining to some customers how "these are franchised stores, so it all depends how the owner chooses to run them....".

I figured since things are on sale I might as well see if there are any bits I could use - like some dies for my .500S&W..... there is an entire disorganized wall of dies, so I go ask someone who is not the individual I speak of above if he can look in the computer for stock. After some humming and hawing, d!ckhead Butts in and says "if it's not out there, we don't have it"....i say "I'm aware, but there are several 100's out there and is appreciate it if you'd use your computer to tell me if my search is hopeless or not". Eye roll from him, some muttering, and he's says "if it's not out there we don't have it", while he waves his hand toward the aisle. Meantime, the guy I originally asked finds them on the shelf right behind them.....wow.....good f-ing riddance.

Also, FYI, I was told by a staff person that the current discounts won't be dropping. I find that hard to believe, but thought I'd mention it incase it helps any of you plan.

As for the good employees who are now out of a job, you can thank the likes of the 60-ish gun counter guy, who's name rhymes with hill.

I've had hit and miss service from TNT in Regina. Maybe it depends who I talk to there. I've ordered a couple things from them and they've been more than happy to bring them in.

Then I go and ask them about trigger jobs for my 10/22 and the one guy says they refuse to do them. Just offers me a $160 BX-22 Trigger from ruger. I don't want the plastic trigger to replace my aluminum one. He didn't even offer to do a hammer and sear kit for mine or order a more expensive Volquartsen or Kidd assembly. Just offered what he had in stock and if I didn't want it, too bad.

TNT, when open, caaaaan be helpful, however, there's no shortage of unhelpfulness as well.

There are some horror stories about blatant rudeness at TNT out there too.

I always buy as much of my stuff as I possibly can from Bowyer's outdoor sports (Maple Creek), Hunt's hunting supply (Gull Lake) or Prairie gun traders

I dont ever have any real problems at the local stores here. Maybe it cause I can be a tad bit aggressive sometimes. :)

It's odd, but that seems to work in places like TnT. Get them on their heels a bit and they sort of take that as "oh, we should respect this guy", whereas if you're shy they want to eat you.

Oh ya, that too.

Seems that most places have beaten us into Stockholm syndrome that we're just happy when they grace us with an unlocked door!!!

Some truth to that. Before the days of CGN and on online shopping why had to take the poor service with a smile, no other option. Now with PGT and great site sponsors it's a different story.
