Kimber Montana: what chambering?

If you haven't already picked one up and are interested in a .270, River Sportsman in Campbell River (Van Island) has a great deal on a new 270 Montana. I think $1500ish tax in. They had a 300wsm Montana for a bit less but that one came home with me :)
I've got 2 Montana's (300wsm and a 338WM I had cut to 20" and irons installed for guiding in the Yukon) and a 308 Classic Select. I have been very pleased. The 338 was beat up, in an out of the scabbard, dragged through soaking wet willow, used as a hiking pole in sheep season, even landed on it after I got bucked off a horse barebacking up a valley with it slung across my back. The finish is great and the rifle is bombproof. The same could not be said for my JM Marlin 1895 I used the year before up there.
I would not hesitate to buy another

Edit: and the Montana stocks handle recoil quite well. My right shoulder is weak from a shattered humeral head a year ago (horses...) and I don't find my 6.5lb short 338WM to be too much to handle.

Ouch 6.5 lb 20" 338! Not to much to handle lol, due you open non twist beer bottles with your arm pit to haha. Could not think of a more handy guide gun. What are you shooting for ammo out of that thing? Any pictures? Sounds interesting

I'd go Creedmoor, you'll be able to use similar powders to the 7mm Mag. Most guys shooting 7-08's tend to shoot 120-140gr weights, and 7mm often in the 150-175gr so you may need new bullets anyways

I've got a Kimber in .338 Win, and perhaps surprisingly it isn't all that bad. If nothing else its over fast.

I'm not kidding, it's not nearly as bad as you'd think.

Awesome rifle Nolan it definitely looks the part. It would do good work in the heavy timber with a 2-7 on it for Elk. Nice looking country! I have been wanting to due a M70 in 350 Rem Mag but this has me thinking. Thanks

Not trying to continually hi-jack this thread, but I have a VX3 2.5-8x36 and low mounts that I had on it last spring for a grizz hunt. It will wear irons permanently since I've bought a 300wsm Montana for my General big game uses.

I asked for your thoughts and comments, so thanks for the experiences!
I already have a Tikka T3 Superlite in 30-06, so I'm going to try to find a 6.5 Creed in the Montana as it saves 6 oz over the same in 270 Win. Doesn't sound like much, but every bit helps as I mostly will be carrying, not shooting.

Sounds like a good choice! That was the drive behind a 6.5lb 338. ,carry it every day for 3+ months and never (hopefully) have to use it. Island Outfitters in Victoria stocks Kimber as well, hope you find what you are looking for!

My 270 Montana ,with steel kimber mounts and a 2.5x8 Leupold came in at 6 lb8oz fyi

I'd like to chop my Montana in 338 to either 23 or 24 inches, the 26 is just a bit too clunky for the mountains. Any thoughts on a barrel length that would be a good compromise?
To the OP, I'd give a vote to the 7-08. My favourite short action cal.
