Can a Norinco 1911a1 frame be used as a starting point for a project? Can any 1911 or 1911a1 part be used in this frame? Later on down the road, can the frame be upgraded and all parts be moved to a new frame???

Thanks

Some drop in, some need machining, like a match grade barrel. Even though some parts are supposed to drop in, getting them to work may take some fitting.
At this point I am out of my league, but lots of guys on this board build 1911's from bare frames.
I got all excited when I figured out how to change an extractor and firing pin

Norc's are made out of high quality steel...frame and slide are perfect for a custom build...I'm planning a commander length build right now...some parts will require machining or hand fitting for sure...but that's all part of the fun...enjoy.

Some time ago I had a 1911 Norc in 9mm and it was a strong, reliable work horse that was reasonably accurate. I would not hesitate to upgrade and/or customize it right from the frame.

I have changed a number of 1911 parts for friends and family, mostly springs, triggers, grips and safeties to accommodate larger or smaller hands. I found every part I bought or were brought to me to be slightly oversized so they could be sized down to a correct dimension for the firearm.

Try not to take material off the frame and slide. Just the parts.

I have made a few look cooler with a Colt slide from 1945, a Remington Rand from 44 and a modern Auto Ordinance slide. The ones without Made in China just the serial number on frame are best for building on. Probably should buy a .236-60 tpi tap so you can use usgi standard grip screw bushings down the road after that all parts are interchangeable. Then go get a commander hammer and beaver tail grip safety, you will need to remove some metal from the frame to install the beaver tail.

Hey Import, this is the 3rd necro thread your computer dug up. Ghost in the machine?

What is the problem with a member posting a pertinent comment in a discussion thread? If it was against the rules, or if greentips didn't approve of it, the thread would be locked (but it isn't).

On the other hand, there is a rule prohibiting harassment.
