270 winchester The famous jack o'connor round. How do you think it would be for larger game such as moose, elk, large bear and such ?

Killed many with it......mostly the 130gr one with the 150gr they aren't tough like elk can be.......usually use the 6.5x55....Harold

There was a time when the .270 was the only rifle
I owned and I used it for everything, moose included. I don't remember losing a single animal
With the cartridge, and am struggling to remember an animal
taken with anything other than a 130. Well hit animals tend to
die in a satisfactory manner.

Most big game animals aren't very big, or very far away or particularly tough. There is an enormous block
of Cartridges that aren't really all that different from
each other, most of what we use would fit in the "light" category on an international scale. You
Often have to take things to extremes to see any difference at all.

A guy in my office is originally from Nunavut. ...he regularly goes home and kills everything; Polar Bear, Musk Ox, Walrus with a .243 ....so...

All you have to do is poke a hole in them.
A boat will sink with a small hole, but it will sink faster with a bigger hole.
Shot placement is everything, I killed my first moose with a 30-30.

270 is it to small for moose?

No. The .270 Winchester was introduced 91 years ago and people still ask about this cartridge effectiveness on medium/big game. With modern bullets, the .270 is better than ever.

My dad shot a moose at 130 yards with a 270win and it went through both rib cages a lung and the heart. The moose died instantly, my dad then said it wasn't enough gun and bought a 300 win mag... I don't know what to say, it killed a animal over 1000lbs from over 100 yards away instantly, and he decided he need a bigger gun... I think he just wanted a new bolt action and had to use some backwards logic to justify it but that's all I got to say. I'd use my 270 weatherby on anything in NA other then grizz and buffalo but that's more a preference not saying it couldn't and that's not a big difference from 270 win.

.270 is a perfect Moose cartridge, Ted (Why Not?) has mentioned on here several times it's one of the most effective chamberings on Yukon Moose he's seen in use, and he's seen a few Moose go down.

I typically take moose with a 7x57 or .308, and the odd one with a .375 H&H, there wasn't a lick of difference between any of the three rounds. A .270 might even kill a tad quicker than the 7x57, .308, or .375... unless we're talking screaming 235s in the .375. It's true speed kills, but so does slow and steady, the difference I'm starting to see is "Speed kills faster." .270's in the speedy realm.

Of course a 270 is too small for shooting moose..........JJJJEEEEEEEEZZZZZZEEEEE............Haven't you ever read anything by Elmer Keith? It's barely adequate for island deer and maybe coyotes...........

What you need is a 340 Weatherby !!!!!!!
