Big Dilemma ** Trolling Thread **

Yep.... we are doing that this week...... I inherited Houndsman duty this year..... which is an honour (hound owner Is previously pictured fudd I love)...... the hounds are his.....

Sitting watch and hearing the hounds baying and running towards you is a very special experience...... and yep..... lots of pumps and semis here......

The dogs in our camp get better treated than we do..... and deservedly so..... since Monday, I have put in 137 kilometres..... I wager that the dogs may have doubled that.......

That would be a cool hunt with hounds. Dad used Walkers.

Ouch....

Oh, and snapped this pic in the truck this morning....

Exactly! You got it. :)

To be honest Ted, while I would never do any of the above to a rifle, I do have some respect behind the principles..... the sentimentality behind the tacks representing an animal harvested is cool...... the older generation knew to always bring a compass and, while I don't think imbedding one in a rifle is necessary, it's nice to see the principle represented....

While I am not into hacking up a rifle, to quote a recent country song "may we all know that nothing ain't cool 'til you wear the new off".... to each their own.....

The 270 offers no advantages over the 280 and several disadvantages. I didn't read many of the previous posts, but much of that was probably already mentioned.

That said, if I ever rechamber my Mauser M98 in 7X57 (doubtful), it will be to 284 Win so that I can seat the heavy bullets well out of the case.

I am using the same basic silva compass my dad gave me when I was 12..... from back when the bezels had metal construction......

The only reason I ever use a GPS is when I need to mark a spot I want to get back to in short order ie. shot a deer while dogging and want to continue the run, or set out a set of rabbit snares......

I have a few Remingtons too, including a 223 Varmint, 257 Mountain, 25-06 and a 35 Whelen.
Had a custom 270 built on a M98 basis ... heavy barrel, varmint type stock with the old Weaver 12x fixed power. Made a very nice varmint gun with 90 gr. Sierras. Shot well under a minute and quite often under a 1/2 minute if I did my part.
Can't say I either want or need a 30-06, or another 270 for that matter, but would certainly entertain a 280 to "fill the gap" so to speak.
The fact that you have 300+ rounds of 280 brass would send my out for a new set of dies. (I don't trust used)
Oh yeah, hound hunting is still going on. We had a few blueticks, a couple of redbones, a black & tan and a "july hound" from Georgia.
