Mandatory refresher before R-PAL

I was just told by someone that since i got my non-restricted PAL a couple years back that I am not allowed to do my R-PAL course till I do a refresher. Is there any truth to this.

I'm in Ontario, and have my RPAL booked for next weekend and if there's any bit of truth to this I'm in a bit of a jam.

Who told you this?

Not sure why this would be true....have you contacted the course instructor?
 
It is or was that if you were to take the restricted course after a year had past since you took your initial course you had to take the full 2 days.
Watch the videos, read the book, handle a few restricted firearms the challenge the test.
Keep it pointed in the safe direction. Push, pull or press something to open the action, to open/verify the cylinder, apply the safety.
 
Sounds wrong to me. If you took your CFSC and passed, it's good for life. You wouldn't have to refresh any of that info before taking the CRFSC. In fact, it's almost all the same info (ACTS and PROVE, Ammunition and head stamps, Social Responsibility), or similar-but-adjusted topics for the Restricted (instead shooting positions and carry positions of an NR, they'll teach proper grip on a pistol. Instead of learning lever action, pump action, etc, they'll teach single and double action revolvers, and semi-auto actions).

I'd question the validity of the source.

Now, if you didn't take the CFSC (grandfathered in, say), then it wouldn't hurt to get the manual early, and go through it, but it is even possible to pass the CRFSC without ever having taken the CFSC.
 
That's what I thought, it was my friend who called the course instructor and whoever he spoke with told him this. He may have just misunderstood otherwise I'm irate

You can no longer challenge either test.
 
Changes as of July 1, 2016 to the CRFSC are that if you take the course within 7 days of the CFSC than it is a 4 hours course.
Over the 7 days it's a 6 hour course.
Not sure where the extra 2 hours came from, as there is no longer a video.
 
There is no refresher as far as I am aware. If you have your PAL and some time has lapsed (the exact amount eludes me) between obtaining it and going for your restricted endorsement, then you must do the full restricted course and nothing more; at least as far as I know. If you are within the time limit then it is my understanding that you can do a somewhat condensed version of the restricted course.
 
Some changes have recently been implemented. There are mandated hours for the CFSC/CRFSC and the number of instructors required depending on class size.

If taking the CRFSC within one week of having taken the CFSC, the CRFSC can be 4 hours otherwise it's a minimum of six hours.

If a student fails either the CFSC or CRFSC, they must re-write within one week or do the entire class again.
 
Yes I have left a message for the instructor to call me back ASAP, the website only states it's an extra fee if we haven't doesn't the CFSC in the last 6months. But upon receiving our payment and booking they sent us an email and buried in their course outline states, simply RPAL must be taken 30 days from CFSC...
 
Crisis averted, apparently both my friend and I spoke with the CFSC instructor, and he was mis-informed. The CRFSC instructor called me after and advised me there is no issue and we only need the 1 day course. There was a bit of urgency due to needing the licence for a job application. Thanks for everyone's input, really knowlageble community here

When you're waiting the (what seems like) 14 years for them to process your license you can call and them that it's for a job. I've been told it can help speed things along.
