I've been playing with my .308 loads since I got it. It's a blr. I've tried multiple combinations of powder and bullets. I've worked up a load using imr 4895 and sierra 180g and found that 39.5g of powder holds a great group of 1.25in at 100m. Now I'm trying 150g sst to see if it likes them with varget behind. Was unreal groups with all 5 charges under an inch. Is great problem is the first cold bore shot of every set is a flyer and is off the other 4 rounds by 4 and sometimes 6 inches. Wondering if anyone has had trouble with this and how to fix it.

If you cleaned the barrel before the first one down the tube will always be flyer, average cold dirty should be very close to point of aim unless your shooting in plus 40 below when you will get a little barrel shrinkage

Clean the rifle and fire 2 shots to foul it.

Then shoot off a rest, with your hand under the forend, holding the rifle much like you wood when field shooting.

I have never used a lead sled, but am suspicious that the wild first shot is the rifle settling into the sled.

So I took the blr out for a spin loaded up with 44.5g varget behind 150g sst. Groups where sub par. It was 2in at 100m and 5 at 200m. Last outing it was great exept the odd flyer now no flyer but cappy grouping. Wondering from the more experienced if it is me, the load, or the gun/scope

I have a different rifle so ymmv but I found my rifle shoots sub moa with less powder with 150 gr SST's. I'm usually in the 41-42 grains of varget, if I go higher, accuracy suffers, anyway, my two cents.

The BLR trigger can be problematic and that could be the source of your difficulties. On mine it's almost like a 2 stage pull whereby I carefully take up the minor creep then it breaks crisp. I need to practice with mine before I can shoot tighter groups.

How far off the lands, you may have too much bullet jump.
