Best peep sight set up for a Marlin 30/30?

Skinner for classic look. XS for modern look. both strong and functional

my preference these days go to XS as they are easier to fine tune

Skinner all the way!,
Some of my previous Skinner setups

(Reliable)

(Alaskan)

(Barrel Mount)

(Low Pro)

(Custom Alaskan)

What makes a Skinner better than a Williams or Lyman receiver sight with click adjustments?

Nothing..... if you want/need click adjustments. But they do look better IMO

I always stuck with one load at a time, zeroed @150y. Skinners are very durable sights, but if you are wanting field adjustable sights, Skinners aren't it.

I hadn't considered that one would be favoured over the other because they look better. They are nice looking sights.

I think most folk with a 30-30 would just use one load an would not be doing field adjustments. I just prefer click adj for both scopes and receiver sights. Makes it easier for sighting in.

Agree they look good...
But how do you go about adjusting the elevation?

Windage would be via front sight drifting, elevation on the "Low Pro" is locked via the Knurled ring pictured.

The aperature stem threads into the receiver and the lock ring tightens it down (there's a o-ring cast into the locking ring)

Bingo. And don't forget the dovetail blank or the extra aperture storage like the one I went with, different sizes can be useful.

I'd pass on that paininthebutt Skinner sight solely on the windage alone. The Lyman and Williams FP is a far easier and better sight.

X2. I'm in this camp as well. I have a 38-55 with a Williams Firesight on the front, and a foolproof at the rear. Best Combo ever for me. Dave.
