Dillon 650 questions

That's my plan, I ordered the 650 ,9mm kit,bullit tray,couple primer tubes.
I got a 45acp conversion off the EE.
I'll get the 357 and .45 LC conversions and start from there.
I'm sure just this much, will be faster than my Single stage. Which was driving me crazy lol
I'll get all the other upgrades eventually .
I already have the dies:)

I'm curious, after all this you sold the 650 and kit before even opening the box. What happened ?

Not really sure,it's a long story.:)
Went to the range yesterday,4 handguns and a rifle.
After a few hrs of shooting targets, I realized I don't need all this,so all in keeping is my .357 and .223.
I don't have any other options for shooting, no IDPA,ipsc, cas ,only target shooting.
I figure my Single stage will be suitable for those two guns.

My wife's uncle/aunt are snowbirding in CA and have gratuitously agreed to bring back my order from Dillon for a 650 (plus case feeder, strong mount, etc). $230 US to ship to Calgary (plus brokerage fees), or under $30 US to the US zip code where they're staying. I'm paying GST no matter what...just waiting to see if the exchange rate shows a decline trend. Loading for IPSC and have the ingredients (10 gallons of 9mm brass/powder/primers, etc) to "bake the cake"...just need the "blender".

I have used the large pistol plate exclusively for over 90,000 rounds, loading 9 mil, 45 acp, .38 sp. .357 mag, .45 LC, .223, 30-30 win., 45-70...I can not remember so much as one case coming down the tube "wrong was up".

OMG. Great info. Too late for me. Do you use the spacer for all those calibers?

I just jumped on the 650xl bandwagon as well.
9mm and .45 acp , conversion kits for each , dies for each plus a case feeder large and small pistol plates, quick change tool head powder measure and stand etc , .45 case gauge plus a few other goodies.
( No strong mount and no micrometer bars ) I will get the micro bars soon.
I will be loading obviously 9mm and .45 for now but will eventually look at .223.

Any advice on things to buy for .223 ?
Is a powder check system worth the $115 ?

Do you think I'm off to a good start ?
Anything else you suggest ?

Thanks in advance

You dont need micrometer bars. Any case that i cant see the powder in i get a powder check station for, like 223.

the micrometer bars are used to easily get back to a known charge weight for a specific powder. It's very handy for developing new loads too as you can calibrate your micrometer and bar to a specific powder to predict what micrometer reading should be for a new charge weight. You still need to check/fine tune, but it really speeds up the process.

I was going to get a powder cop or the Dillon powder check sensor
No micrometer bars for now anyway...... Ouch my wallet hurts !!!!!

I have complete toolheads for each caliber I reload. Set it and forget it for me. I build all my test loads on a single stqge with my auto dispenser to make sure my test loads are perfect.

I started that way too for the various flavours of 9mm I was reloading (147gr FP semi-auto minor PF, 147gr RN revolver minor PF, 124gr minor semi-auto minor PF, 124gr semi-auto major PF). Then I started reloading various flavors of 45acp (semi-auto & revolver), 38sp, 40S&W (semi-auto & revolver), 10mm (semi-auto & revolver), 44mag ..... Besides being expensive to have a powder measure in addition to a fully setup tool head, I was quickly running out of space. So now I just calibrate each powder measure to a specific powder, and record the micrometer setting for each load I've worked up.

Just a few of the tools heads I use a lot.

VanMan... you just need a bigger room.

I'm already thinking of where to add another reloading bench for a Forster single stage, and maybe farther down the road a nice 1050 with a Mark 7. I'm gonna need to get a 2nd job, or maybe meet a wealthy widow .... :)
