By Ardents build thread and keeping within economic realities - I thought maybe a CZ 527 carbine in a custom inletted McMillian stock, their ultralight hunter model or ?? Have the irons removed, maybe another two inches off the tube and where else could one save a few oz's? Put a little fixed power in lightweight Talleys and ? Or am I thinking about the wrong micro Mauser action? I have a Kimber Adriondack so maybe just chasing my tail but wine fuelled thoughts have ended well for me before.... ;)

I like my CZ 527 very much, it is going to be my sons' first deer rifle. I find it light enough, but I'm interested in what you may do to lighten it more.

527m has an 18.5" barrel so you have to find a manufactured replacement, cutting would be a no-no. I imagine a synthetic stock could save you a bit of weight though.

I have a AIA Lee enfield in 7.62x39
I still plan on having a 12.5" barrel put on and see-all sight

If you want to lose the wait lose the scope the See-All sight looks interesting alternative for rifles with out sights
Get a shorter thin barrel and light stock you will wind up with a sweet bush rifle and handy packing in deep snow
 
CZ527 kills deer dead out to 200 yards so far.Big bodied AB WT + MD..........love mine in the treestand or pushing bush .....what recoil ?.....my buddies 80lb daughter shoots his and killed two deer this fall..also can load 150gr .311 Sierras to keep things at 1000 ft /lbs at 200 yards for those that think #'s kill............Harold
 
Whenever I think of buying one of these I see a photo of a scoped one and quickly change my mind due to the height of the mounted scope.
I'm guessing not much is available for rings {they are propriety...right?} to bring those scopes down closer to the bore, the drop in the stock looks like it accommodates irons only and would be a nightmare to get a proper cheek weld with scope installed.

Never understood the huge single-stack mag either...such great potential for a slick little one-handed carry rifle ruined by an obtrusive and sharp sheet metal magazine.
On a positive note the wood sure is gorgeous on many of these.

Well said....can't understand the lack of a flush fitting magazine. I think the scope mounting issue is that the bolt will hit the scope if it is mounted low....

There's a bolt handle mod to be able to lower the scope and I saw a flush mag out there somewhere. Costs extra money of course.

Like yourself, I debate about this rifle often. Going to start with a Howa mini action first. Still might end up with a CZ as well though.
 
The Ruger m77 compact was made in 7.62x39.... as mentioned above......

If you aren't hung up on that cartridge, they are also available in .308 and .243.....

Absolutely love mine.... carries and handles like a dream and the 2-7 scope I put on it sits nice and low on the rifle....

The nice thing is the Ruger compact is not a youth rifle. It has a normal length-of-pull, a shorter forestock and a 16.5" barrel. As I said before, I took a nice white-tailed buck at 304 yards across a swamp and way up a cutline with it, a one-shot kill, passing through the lungs and out the other side. If you know your trajectory, the x39 is plenty for deer.

I believe the newer ones have a redesigned bolt handle.

I can understand the protruding mag/balance issue but I can easily wrap my hand around that spot, mag in, without issue. I haven't tried carrying it around that way however.
