Hi guys,

I'm looking into AR-15s for a December and now it's between SR556 or an NEA model carbine length model.

I've seen and read bad things about the NEA 1st gen, is it on par with other 1k$ now or should I stay away and goo with the SR556 as my first choice ?

Thanks,

I had been fighting with the same question. I looked at all sorts of different rifles in the price range and found that the NEA was the one I liked the best, mostly based on set up, feel, and of course look. There was definitely the option to spend some more cash to get a higher end gun, but I wanted to stay under $2000 with glass. I got some great black Friday deals and came in well under. So not a experienced user endorsement but I will find out if I made the right decision in the next few weeks.

Do you really want to chance it?

Due to personal experience I will not buy NEA.

Armalite, bushmaster, Wyndham, RRA, etc are way better

I had a BCG from them without staking on gas key. They do service their products though and CanAmmo swears they had no problems recently.

I've built my own AR using NEA receivers. Machining is comparable to any "name brand" such as DD etc. If you are that worried you can always buy a different bolt which was what most of the original complaints were about.

I find it fascinating that this comes up regularly. The idea of supporting a small budget Canadian AR maker must be a strong lure, especially since the market is saturated with excellent alternative AR options.

Is there anything particularly bad on the SR556 ?
I know the factory rail can be a ##### to remove if you want to customize but I kinda like piston operated rifle and don't want to get a MR556 (yet).

Meh.

The company has die-hards on both sides of the fence.

Some swear by the reliability and quality of the brand, others have them blow up on them every second day.

Personally I have owned about a half dozen of their various products over several years, and they have in my experience ranged from 'unacceptable' to 'ok'

I won't spend money with them again unless things change, but that's just one guys opinion.

Judging by their last product, blast shield, the only review I had was from a guy who bought 2 that couldnt be threaded all the way to the muzzle brake. One didnt have any markings and both look like they were used...

There is other options out there
