Xmas will find a reloading press under the tree, and the first rifle I'm setting up for reloading is my 700 5r 223. (Single stage press)
Picked up a box of Hornaday 68grBTHP as they are similar weight that I have found the rifle likes from commercial ammunition.
Read through the Hornaday reloading manual, and there is a few suggested powders, anyone reload for the 5r that has more info with a powder that works well, and possible load suggestions.
Pretty much in the info collecting stage here, I've been saving the brass that I've fire formed.
Only other 223in the collection is an AR, which is the second long term reloading project.

I have not loaded for the 223 but I do load for the 308 R700 5R.

On the 308 the internal mag is short, a lot shorter then the lands. Some will recommend hitting the lands and backing of a couple thou, but test it in your internal mag first to ensure it will fit. (Or get a detachable mag).

Im currently using Varget, but really if your building a precision load out you just need to test and tune.

If you are loading for accuracy, see if you can find Varget, Benchmark or RL15.

Start with 24.0 and load 24,5, 25.0 and 25.5 and see what works best. Your rifle may show pressure, so be prepared to bring some ammo home.

I have a 5R in 223. I load the 69 grain sierra matchkings over 24 grains of varget. Its been extremely accurate for me. My gun also liked 52 grain HPBT hornadys, and the 55 grain nosler varmint grenades. I stuck with the matchkings and varget over all others though. Good luck, its a great gun.

^^^ This
I had one, 24.7 Varget and 69 SMK, or, 24.9 Varget Lapua scenar 69gr loaded to book length shot 1/2-3/4 MOA to 300yds in my rifle.
I changed the barrel to a faster twist, but if I still had the stock 5R barrel, i would try the 77TMK's and see what they could do.
Also, after a few years shooting Remington 223 brass, i switched to Lapua brass, which really tightened things up for me.

Varget in the weights mentioned(work up carefully) and 69 gr SMKs or Hornady 75 gr HPBT

You'll find the lands on most Remington barrels are quite far off, like around 1/4" on my .308 5R and SPS Varmint. Don't know how much is typical for .223 but I don't think you can load into the lands at mag length. Remington does this to prevent over pressure from jamming bullets into the neck (liability and whatnot).
