So I've ran into an issue with my ACR. It happens at random times and with all types of ammo, both .223 and 5.56

I'll be having a grand ol day shooting then next thing you know, my brass is half sticking out and has caused a dent / bend in the round being chambered. I'm at 10 damaged rounds now out of 100 shots.

I checked under the extractor thinking maybe it was full of brass shavings but to my surprise was super clean. Is it possible the extractor spring is toast or is it possible the gas system isn't doing its job? Sometimes, the last round fired, the brass stays on top of the mag. I tried recording 240 fps video but of course, it didn't happen until I stopped recording. The FTE brass is starting to mark the upper and slowly chip away.

I read someone had taken the brass deflector off and that solved their problem but I'm left eye dominant and not sure about having the brass smoke me in the face lol or have it eat away at that end of the receiver.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Get a new Wolf extra power extractor spring and a new extractor. I had that same issue with mine and that solved my problem. I also got the V2 deflector

Copy that, thanks DILLIGAF.

Does it fling the brass as far as I read?

*Edit

Excuse my lack of knowledge but do I need an ACR BCG extractor or would an AR extractor work as well?

Have you checked your ejector? Sticking? Weak or broken spring?
Sounds like the extractor is working but it's not tossing the empties.
Remove the bolt and hook an empty under the extractor and rock the brass in against the bolt face, you should feel the ejector plunger resisting this, once it's in there point it in a safe direction and let go of the brass, it should flick it away.

If you can't figure it out and you're anywhere near Edmonton PM me and I'll have a look at it with you. If needed we can borrow parts from mine to isolate the problem so you know what you need to buy.

Hey CR5, I did try what you said, definitely some resistance but I think it could do a better job at flinging the brass. I've ordered a Wolff spring from GPTactical and hopefully that fixes my issue.

The extractor itself looks pretty good, once I get the spring in, I will do some testing. Was going to order an extractor as well but they were out of stock.

Most of the time, the brass is about 1.5 to 2 feet away, not sure if that's decent?

I may take you up on that offer, I'm just outside of Rocky Mountain House. Need an excuse to go to E-town lol

I'm 45min north of Edmonton, have enough land to make noise so if your rifle is non restricted we can test shoot it here and diagnose the problem. I have a 100yd range out the back door of my shop :)
Doesn't sound like an extraction problem to me, I think it's more to do with the ejector. Hopefully I'm wrong and your new springs fix it up.

Sounds like you have quite the set up! Yup, she's NR. I will be sure to send you a message in the event I could use some help. Thanks a lot for your offer and insight!

I have filed the brass deflector to original shape and then it works fine for a bit
After a while it gets pounded to a weird angle and flings the brass back into the chamber

i have the newer version brass deflector on order hoping that will cure it

I had the same problem with my ACR, I just removed the brass deflector and run it like that
Never have a issue anymore

At what angle does it fling the brass? 5 o'clock? I'm lefty so my face might be in the way... Has it started eating away at that end of the port?

i put the bcm enhanced extractor spring and o ring, solved the problem, now the brass ejects 18 feet away.

just curious what barrel do you have?

Mike I got the Wolff extra power spring on order. Hopefully that'll cure the issue lol. I guess it'll make retrieving the brass a little more difficult now.

RC, where did you order that V2 deflector from?

what barrel do you have and who mounted the gas system for you?

It flings it about 2-3 o'clock without the brass deflector

It does scratch my receiver , here's a picture someone took of me, you can see the scratches

Hahaha, if on the suppressed setting, won't it not cycle the bolt? What about the H/L gas setting Bushmaster has been giving out in the states? I emailed them in hopes they could enlighten me.
