Cost of reloading .303 British ???

My cost is:
Cast bullet 0.22
Powder 0.11
Primer. 03
Total = 0.34 each

or

Jacketed bullet 0.35
Powder 0.26
Primer 0.03
Total = 0.64

I usually find once fired brass for less than 50 cents each, and get about 5 reloads out of each. So add 10 cents each to the costs above.

i cast for my enfield as well and find if the brass is only necksized rather than full length, you can get much more than 5 reloads out of it....

For economical plinking/target shooting in most bolt milsurps cast bullets are the way to go. Good loads can be as accurate as jacketed-,recoil is less, brass life much longer, less powder, bore wear reduced and cost of bullets usually around a third the cost of jacketed. Haven't bought any jacketed bullets for my 303's in years but I hear of shooters paying 50-60 bucks per hundred.

yes, this is exactly why i cast as well....lots of benefits.

In some of the oversize military chambers, firing the brass first time without some provision for fire forming will stretch the brass so that you might get far less reloads even if you neck size.

I am nervous to cast I have heard horror stories of lead posioning. I can take precautions but the only place I have to do it is in my backyard outfront on my suburb driveway lol, are there any sources to buy cast bullets from decently priced ? Scrolled through some of the sites checking more now *sponsored sites

The greatest danger of lead poisoning comes from indoor shooting ranges.

I sell cast bullets but shipping takes a bit of the fun out of it - lead is heavy stuff to ship long distance. That said, buying in bulk saves a lot on shipping charges. Doubling the order usually only raises shipping cost by 15% or so. Buying many small orders will cost substantially more than a few large orders.

True- shipping charges can kill the deal, so to speak. However, you can sometimes save on that- I pre-ordered 800 gas-checked cast .313 for my .303's from the Bullet Barn (they're on the island) and paid for them at the Kamloops gun show. Totally made it worthwhile.

I got a lee loader classic which is the cheapest tools you can get to reload with. I always buy the cheapest primers. I always buy the cheapest powder that will work with 303 and my 30-06. If you are lucky like me your enfield can shoot .308 dia projectiles which is cheaper and easier to find but get the flat bottom projectiles, again cheapest ones I can find. I posted it here:

But any way I got a steal of a deal on brass, so it worked out that I am paying 0.70 cents a shot AFTER breaking even. With the lee loader classic I broke even after 60 cartridges. Unless you are willing to cast your own this is the cheapest way to do it

Yes there are ways to lower the price on shipping. I did two quotes for a gentleman in Gander looking for 45-70 bullets. Shipping cost on 100 bullets was $30, on 600 bullets it was $53. Shipping cost per bullet drops from $.30 to $.08 by ordering in bulk.

I have looked into reloading for my calibres 7.62x39, 7.62 x 54 , 8x57 JS
I can't seem to work it out economically for the value of simply selling once fired brass when enough are avail. Brass in these rounds se to be about .50/ so short of make a 500 reloading equip investment I'm breaking about even. Also smelting lead in my basement doesn't sound like a great idea when I have young kids in the house. At some point I agree it becomes essential Re costs/availability just not there yet. Come next June with the UN marking system costs may force us avail to reload.
