I purchased a 7mm-08 Remington takeoff barrel, I have a model Seven .243 Win that I was going to rebarrel. My dilemma is it shoots well as is.
So should I have it rebarrelled anyway, or look for another action?

Thee is a good chance that the take off barrel will fit without having to adjust the headspace so you might be able to try the takeoff barrel ( after checking the headsapce of course) without a significant cost especially if you can do it yourself. If the headspace is no good or it doesn't shoot you can put the 243 barrel back on or as mentioned above buy another rifle in a different caliber.

How long is it? If you do wish to sell it PM me.

Most 700 and model 7 barrels will interchange without headspace issues, however sights and lettering will not necessarily come up right.

I've had one of Bevan's last .510" blanks in my stash for 10 years now. They don't go bad so why worry about doing anything with it until you want to?

I have a bbl FS here if you're interested. :)

I figured that Cub of all folks would support the change after all he owned the rifle at one point before me and was going to put I believe a .250-3000 tube on it. If memory serves me correctly. Perhaps a good 2-7 scope would help me like it more than the fixed 4x it currently wears.
I have to admit part of the reason I came here asking this is lately all the suitably priced potential donor actions on the EE have been long actions and the thought of a 7mm-08 on a long action made the rifle loony in me less than pleased. They were stating to tell me to buy one cheap and then get it the barrel reamed to .280 AI and the costs of this project were starting build rapidly.
I think I'll hang on to the barrel for the time being. Any one got any favorite .243 or 7mm-08 loads for whitetails and black bear?

Your'e right ....... I've done lots of bbl switches over the years, but was being pragmatic in my reply. I was going to put a 250AI bbl on that but decided that I would stick with the 257R instead. Didn't need two 25cal rifles.

I just think that the 243 is a fine deer round and another rifle could be bought or built (on your bbl) and then you have two rifles. :)
