New Pistol Training Aid

Looks like I'll need to get a handgun with a rail; if only they made one that clips onto the trigger guard or something of the sort.

If only they made something that doesn't involve a "smart" phone. Pretty soon these devices won't even need people to own and operate them.

Wanstalls brought these in a while back. They seem to be sold out now. While they look interesting, the "smart" phone requirement made the whole package pretty pricey so I passed on it. I figured I'd rather spend the money on ammo and focus on sight picture, trigger control and breathing. I was actually amazed at how much breathing affects point of impact, even at 5 yards.

Ganderite, if you get one, please post a review. I'd be interested in what someone who actually uses it for "real world" practice thinks about it,

Meh, I'd rather go get some awesome one on one training from Slavex in person again....will see you in the new year.

Almost kinda creepy that the product owner just made an account today and first post is to advertise his goods.

Austin from Mantis here.

Wanstall's sold out, but has them back in stock now.

We have some adapters for non-railed guns (with lots more coming soon: sign up for our newsletter for updates to find out when) here: http://mantisx.com/collections/rail-adapters

Some third-party reviews here: http://mantisx.com/pages/press-media

Holler if I can answer any other questions for you.

Cheers!
Austin

Hi Austin,
In the review by Patrick Kelley, he stated that at the time of his review the device/app couldn't register splits quicker than about .4-.5
Has this been addressed?
If so, any vids or anything that would show what the shooter would see as feedback during speed shooting?

If you get that sorted, I'd definitely be interested in something like this.

Hey pauls,

Good questions. The app he was reviewing is now a few months old, and the interface is far different.

Current split speed min is about 0.3 seconds (and continues to improve). The long answer is that we collect all the data, but throw some of it out if we think it isn't useful to the end-user. For example, with rapid-fire shooting, was the deviation during the last 0.25 seconds good recoil management or bad shooting mechanics? Our engineers are continually digging deeper into better algorithms to get as much useful data as fast as possible into the interface.

Currently, the interface for rapid fire looks the same as for static fire (shot-by-shot analysis). We're testing an app update with a shot timer (accelerometer-based, not sound-based) internally right now, as well as a bunch of other features (e.g. support for rifle).

Cheers,
Austin

My son has a laser gizmo for his rifle. He can shoot it indoors (dry fire) and it shows the second before and after he shot by way of a trace on the target shown on his laptop. It shows things like snatching the trigger and poor follow though. I think it cost over $1,000.

This pistol gizmo does not measure sight alignment with the target and the quality of the sight picture. Assuming everything else is perfect, the results will be poor if the sight picture is not good.

I am satisfied with my sight picture, but do get some fliers. I am hoping to get feed back on those fliers. I suspect trigger snatching or flinching.

I will report back, if I get one. I am looking for a discount coup[on I saw advertised in USA. I buy this stuff in the US, usually.

That looks awesome. Anyone stocking them in Canada?

That thing has one drawback: When you setup your target at say 25 yards, you'll not see the results on your phone because they use phone as a camera and it is close to the target.

A better solution would be to have a small camera with Bluetooth to relay the images to your phone.

MantisX is probably better for learning the follow through, trigger control etc. But at $150 it is crazy expensive. If it was $50-75 I'd buy it, but at $150 I rather send 500 of good ammo down the range.

... but at $150 I rather send 500 of good ammo down the range.

With that approach, I guess you have to ask yourself...is that 500 rounds of meaningful ammo, where you get feedback on your proficiency, then learn something, then improve...or are you just having fun blowing ammo. Not many folks are capable of improving on their own, without some kind of external feedback. If you are serious about improvement, $150 is a drop in the bucket IMO...and I don't have wads of cash laying about. $75/hour for one-on-one shooting instruction. Two hours of that and it will be the best $150 you have ever spent. This item, if it is halfway decent, you get to use forever. Looking forward to Ganderite's review.

I've been running one on my Glock for about a month now. I'm still working out what data is relevant to me and how to apply it. I've only done one live fire session with it and need some more range time to evaluate. In dryfire alone it is pretty useful for developing trigger press without disturbing the gun, you get to see exactly the trace of the muzzle before, during, and after the trigger press.

Where did you buy it from?

1+ anyone know if avaliable in canads

If you already got a laser ammo you can just download their app (free to donwload) and get a phone stand that can hold your phone vertically. The whole stand is optional. In fact I found their stand can't really grip my phone very well. All you need to do is to print out a target, tape it on the wall and find a phone stand and run the app. They are selling a laser ammo with a lot of unnecessary stuff. Plus their laser ammo is not very well build in the back end. That rubber pad button is falling apart after just about 200ish hits (already a warranty replacement). Sometimes the laser will turn on after a hit and won't turn off while sometimes it will not respond to the firing pin.

Sure Strike has much tougher build compare to this laser ammo plus you can turn the Sure Strike into a 12 Ga, .223, .45, .40 S&w etc with diff adapters. This one will only work on 9mm as far I know. Not advertising for Sure Strike but I have both so just sharing my user experience with you guys.
