is this harassment

Didn't you lose a gold plated cow worth millions? I would approach the MNR people and put in a complaint, they need a legal reason to come on your property or they are trespassing. Leaving gates open is ignorant and needs to be dea with, lock the gates. I've dealt with this on my quarter section in Alberta and now the fish cops and police stay off unless they have permission.

Not harassment, they have a right to be there (like it or not). Leaving the gate open well yes they should close it but again I lock my gates to avoid this issue. If they are concerned something is going on they will walk around or through them.

Police and consecration officer ridicule on this site needs to stop. They have a job to do and most do it to the best of their ability day in and day out. Just this guys opinion.

Ehhh, they don't have a right to trespass without grounds to believe that an offence is taken place or there is hunters on the property. Wardens can't just enter any property they like in search of hunters. Now, if they saw a hunter from the road they can enter the property to check tags & compliance etc.

Lol @ "consecration officer"...... you don't revere them that much do you?...... I agree with your post though.....

just a question during deer season a MNR pickup drove onto property up and old shut down road. Opened the gate a my property line drove thru left gate open that is not good as I graze cattle and goats on that property and proceeded to drive thru my hay fields and eventually crossed a out of repair bridge and drove off the property.
Curious to that 2 days earlier we had 2 OPP on a side by side stop and talk to the wife of one of the hunters.
have not seen either MNR OR OPP for 15 yrs

Maybe, someone was lost or poachers had been spotted on your property. OPP and CO's have the right to enter private property on reasonable and probable grounds that illegal activity is occurring or has been occurring, but, they should have told you as the owner why they were there and they sure as hell should have closed the gate. I'd certainly be making a couple of phone calls and not just to some dispatcher, either. Talk to an OPP detachment commander or OMNRF area manager. If there's unlawful activity happening on your property, you really need to know about it.

Right in the post, it says "police were there talking to the wife of one of the hunters"

There has been no ridicule in this thread. Entering the property without cause and leaving the gate open doesn't constitute harassment by any description, but it is questionable conduct to enter the property and drive over sowed fields, it is further inconsiderate, perhaps unprofessional, pick your term, to leave a gate open behind you..after all these are people who are trained and experienced with entering rural lands, fields used for livelihood and livestock, etc.

It is not ridicule to question the action, or to critique the action. There is a problem 'knee-jerking' and piling on for officers performing their duties but there has been nothing but fair commentary and reasonable expectations of respect for other's property in this thread.

As fare as I know thay need a warrant to come on your property unless thay see a crime being committed that is a public safety issue
I would make a call and demand thay contact you next time and make it clear your not going to tolerate them leaving gates open
One call shood straighten things out its probably just an overzealous rookie that needs a ass chewing

Wrong wrong wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They do not need permission, they should close gates yes but again not required and again locking said gates or posting signs stating please close animals on property takes care of this issue. Lol call and complain I promise you will have someone constantly checking the place for poaching by land owner happening.

Here we go is right....

It's not ridicule to criticize based on facts. I have no reason to believe that the OP is fibbing, but maybe he is, but for now let's assume he's not part of a broad illuminati conspiracy to defame LEO's.

Leaving a livestock gate open is plain f@cking stupid. Whether they should have been there or not is, as mentioned above, is a matter of "probable cause" or some query for a valid reason. As far as we know, the OP has not had it explained to him why they were there.

This has two sides. If LEO's want the respect they think they deserve, then they need to start self-policing and earning back some of the respect that their less smart, less scrupulous, colleagues have lost on their behalf.

GGG

Sorry bud, perhaps you should brush up on your Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act. CO's cannot enter without reasonable grounds.

I know a guy who owns a million dollar bull. They do exist, and I'm willing to bet that his insurance policy doesn't cover "LEO Stupidity".

Is anyone on here an actual, respectable LEO that can clarify this??

Is OPP retired OK?LOL Ontario's CO's may enter onto any property where hunters are visible to check for F.W.C.Act compliance. They may also search any vehicle or out building without warrant where R&PG exists that illegally taken game may be stored or evidence is being hidden. However, they may NOT search a residential dwelling without a warrant, but, there are procedures in place in the event of such an incident which always involves the OPP or a Regional Police Service.
