I picked up a new AR off the EE and when it arrived I noticed that the bolt would move freely back and forth but it would lock up the bolt every time it was dry fired .
It then needed to be hit on the cocking handle with something to unlock the bolt . After swapping bolt carrier groups to confirm the problem I took the bolt apart. On initial inspection everything looked OK and the bolt would move back and forth in the carrier fine out of the rifle.
Lucky for me there is a place nearby where a bunch of people who wear green alot fix things like this all the time .
Conclusion ....Out of spec firing pin.

Does new off the EE mean that it was new never fired or just new to you?
Strange the person selling it didn't know about the issue and warn you prior to purchase. Even if it was cheap and easy to fix I wouldn't be happy with the seller.

How do you know it was the original firing pin? Firing pins have no markings and they all look the same.

I was assuming that it is the original one as the rifle is new and unfired and yes I found it strange the seller tried to tell me he didn't realize it had issues. Unless he never dry fired it ....
His comment to me when I told him of the issue was ... "Sounds like it could have been sent back to manufacturer " Which is true but I have a sneaky suspicion he may have known about the issue and just dumped the problem on me . At any rate it is fixed at no cost to me other than time , gas money and aggravation thanks to my green dressed friend . He also got rid the crappy Tapco sling attachment point on the buffer tube that somehow got installed on the rifle. I wonder what happened to the NEA one that was on it. Having someone install a Tapco part instead of the factory one is pretty cheesy as well .Good thing I got the rifle at a good price and have friends who can fix them.
