Hey guys,

I'm looking for a IPSC holster for an upcoming new SVI Open pistol. What do you recommend?

Without much thought or research into it yet, I noticed the DA Race Master, with or without muzzle support, is a popular rig, followed by the Ghost One. I have not yet seen anyone with the newer Alpha X or the Safariland Model 014.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.

I noticed the DA Race Master, with or without muzzle support

Personal preference I suppose. I use the Double Alpha Race Master with the magnetic inserts, no muzzle support.
Love it, lock down is super secure, comes out smooth, and just buy another insert if you plan on switching to another division or pistol. 2 minute change.

Little expensive, but worth it. Buy once, cry once.

"Buy once, cry once": I subscribe, no compromise on quality and safety.

No muzzle support on Race Master: I am concerned about retention, should I accidentally knock the muzzle on a downward motion like sitting down or kneeling.

Not a concern at all. When i say it's secure, I mean MASSIVELY secure. Unless you forget to push the locking lever down, it's not going anywhere. Hang upside down, fall over, do barrel rolls....you get the point.

Not many reviews on the Interwebs regarding the Safariland model 014. The damn things are a rare sight too. Do not know anyone sporting one at local matches either. That cautions me not to be too trigger happy on that beast. Need to know more.

Currently own both:
- CR Speed (for a Shadow) but don't trust it for a heavier Open gun, my perception and I could be wrong;
- Ghost One (for a Kimber 1911), rock solid, a bit bulky for me. I am very slim guy, holster's pressure points do bother me on long matches.

where are you located sir?, if your in close GtA, would be glad to show it to you.

Holsters are a big personal preference. I use and like the DAA Racemaster. It adjusts exactly the way I want it, the retention when locked is 100 % and you can swap inserts for different guns in less than a minute. The holster is gun specific so you do not have fiddle with shims, spacers etc.

A lot of people love the CR Speed WSM for the exact reason that it is universal and can be fitted to many different guns.

I would say try to see a few different holsters at your local club, try then out and then make your purchase decision.

CR Speed - I've knocked a gun out when "locked" before.
DAA - Hangs up if the draw isn't perfectly vertical. Could be a tolerance issue with the trigger guard - block interface, but too much trouble for me to try and resolve.
Ghost - Lack of muzzle platform makes it less stable. Lock is a PITA to engage
Manny Bragg - Too much side-to-side play. Worked well for IPSC but became really apparent with Steel Challenge and the hands above shoulders start position.

014 solves basically ALL the issues I've had with other holsters. Very happy with it.

Haha, I would not be that harsh because it works but I concede that for me it is one of the least user friendly.

I had (still have) a favorable bias toward the DA Race Master but the 014 is definitely sparking a growing interest.
